Campus Celebrity: Katie Corrado

Well, Collegiettes™, this Campus Celebrity article is starting with some sad news. Katie Corrado, one of our fabulous Campus Correspondents, is no longer with HerCampus. It’s not for nothing though- Katie is one of the busiest, most ambitious students at Fordham. Katie not only juggles demanding internships with her school work, but she’s also worked tirelessly bulldozing new paths for bright Communications students by forming Lambda Pi Eta, a Communications honor society at Fordham. Katie also is a familiar face on Fordham Nightly News, and is the Student Production Director for FNN. With all these credentials, there’s no question that Katie’s going to acheive her dream of being a successful broadcast journalist. Keep your eyes on your television set for the next two years- Katie Corrado is indubitably coming to a news station near you.

Do you have any tips for students who are trying to balance schoolwork, extracurriculars, and other obligations like internships? Buy a planner. Write down everything you need to do, even the small things. Overestimate how much time you think you’ll need for activities and homework so you’re never crunched for time. Take small breaks so nothing seems so overwhelming.

What’s your favorite thing about NY? I love that something is always going on; there’s never a dull moment. When you’re not there, you feel like you’re missing out on something.

What’s your least favorite class you’ve taken at Fordham? Environmental Physics, without question.

Where’s your favorite spot on campus? The TV station because hardly anyone knows where it is, so it’s a hidden gem on campus. It’s also where I spend hours each week.

If you could give one piece of advice to an incoming Fordham freshman, what would it be? Learn that being in college means expanding your life and incorporating new people and places, but not giving up on the good things you left behind at home.

What’s your dream job? To become a broadcast journalist in New York City!

Claire Cumberland is a sophomore at Fordham University in the Bronx. A communications major, she doesn’t have a singular idea about what she wants to do with her life, but hopes to dabble in many different things before stumbling upon her dream job. She enjoys reading, writing, walking her dog Scout, going to thrift stores, watching television, painting her nails, getting internships, online shopping, and color coding things. Claire has interned at Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a charity for childhood cancer established in her hometown of Philadelphia, PA. She also interned at Sesame Workshop as a production intern for The Electric Company, a popular show on PBS. Claire is currently involved in Global Outreach at Fordham University and is an anchor for Fordham Nightly News.
