Last Summer, my family and I took a trip to South Beach, Miami. My parents booked a room at the 1 Hotel, not knowing much about it since none of us had vacationed in South Beach before. I was mainly excited about the beaches and the entertainment that the surrounding area have to offer more than I was about the hotel. Once I had arrived, though, I was exposed to a completely different experience of traveling thanks to the emphasis on sustainability that is intertwined with this specific hotel’s amenities.
I had never before considered how a hotel could be so celebratory of the Earth and all that nature has to offer. Barry Sternlicht, the CEO and Chairman of the 1 Hotel chain emphasizes the importance of appreciating the beauty of nature, while also promoting the notion of sustainability. 1 Hotels are exactly what is stated above: “a platform for change.” With room keys made of 5 different types of recycled wood, hangers made of 100% post-consumer recycled materials, shower timers in each room to encourage guests to save water, fresh-picked fruits and vegetables made available to purchase, thousands of types of plants within the vicinity of the hotel, chalkboards instead paper notepads in each room, and so much more, the 1 Hotel has incredibly creative and fascinating ways of saving the Earth. The 1 Hotel emphasizes the 1 Earth and the 1 future we share, providing guests with unmatched hospitality and educational resources on how to better our Earth in the years to come.
Not to mention, the beauty and the incredible warmth of this hotel makes it a place that I would be lucky to visit again. Words cannot describe to how insanely beautiful this place is. With locations in Central Park, Brooklyn, South Beach, and West Hollywood, I definitely recommend adding a trip to this hotel to your summer plans.
My eyes were trulyopened on this trip and I had never wanted to be environmentally-friendly more than I had after my stay at this hotel. I have made conscious efforts since then to increase my positive environmental impact.
