WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE DEMOCRATIC DEBATES

2019 isn’t over yet and the 2020 presidential race is going strong. Democratic primary candidates have been battling against one another to win the nominee. Only one will be left standing… who will it be?

                                                      

ABOUT THE LAST DEBATE

The third democratic debate took place at a university in Houston, Texas. This debate was considered important due to the fact that it was the first time all major 2020 candidates appeared on one stage at the same time. The previous debates were separated into two nights and voters were only able to see certain pairings debate.

This debate clearly distinguished the top tier candidates of the race. The topics mainly discussed were healthcare, gun reform, climate change, education, and criminal justice. Specific questions were also asked to certain candidates, which allowed them to have the opportunity to share their message.

The Democratic debate had a lot of clashes regarding policies and personal division that will define the 2020 Presidential race. The debate that took place in Houston exposed ideological and policy divisions between the candidates, which is not a good look for the candidates. These clashes between the different candidates offer some insight into how the race will unfold.

 

NEXT DEBATE

The fourth debate will take place on October 15 at Otterbein University located in Westerville, Ohio. The debate will be co-hosted by CNN and the New York Times. The moderators will be Anderson Cooper, Erin Burnett, and Marc Lacey.

It is important to note that not everyone from the third debate will be debating.

To qualify for the next debate, the candidates must meet the following requirements:

  1. 130,000 unique donors, with a minimum of 400 unique donors per state in at least 20 U.S. states
  2. Reach at least 2% support in four qualifying polls released between June 28 and August 28.

CNN reported that 11 candidates have reached the qualifications for the fourth debate. The candidates are Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Beto O’Rourke, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Julián Castro, Andrew Yang, and Tom Steye.

 

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT

It is important to be aware of what is occurring in these debates. Although there is a lot of candidates, these debates are crucial for determining who is a better fit for our country. Most importantly, these debates are important to determine who has the willpower and motive to beat Donald Trump in the next presidential election?
