As college students we usually just want to sleep every chance we get. During our breaks that’s no exception, but being college students also means we have to use up the little time we have to apply for internships, volunteer and get ourselves ready for the next semester.

So if this break there’s no traveling planned might as well take the time to do something productive.

One of the things that can be done during winter break is look for internships for the spring. Most applications might already be due but it doesn’t hurt to plan out internship possibilities for the future and do some research for when it’s time to apply.

Internships are important to college students as job opportunities. They could arise from nowhere and having experience in your field will strengthen your resume.

Besides internships it is also good to do some research on future jobs or the job of your dreams. Setting goals and being ambitious is essential and can be your motivating factors.

If you already have an internship or job lined up, try looking for volunteer opportunities. During the holidays a lot of shelters and organizations are looking for help. His House and United Way are a few examples, simply go on google and search for “volunteering opportunities near me”.

Volunteering is a great way to give back and to put a smile on someone’s face. You can even take it to the next step and host a food or toy drive.

Even though it’s not spring you can still do a winter cleaning. Go through all your things and see if there’s anything that can be donated. Prepare yourself for a fresh start for this new year.

Another suggestion is to plan for the next semester. Make lists of things that  you wish to accomplish such as joining a new club or be more involved on campus. Begin to prepare for your classes and see if there are any books or access codes that require purchase. It’s never too early to start being ready for the next semester.

Lists are always useful and come in handy. Having a planned out day leaves no room for procrastination.

Take advantage of the free time, have fun and enjoy this break!
