Valentine’s Day Dinner: Good For Your Heart, Stomach & Wallet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

Valentines day is almost here! But before you cringe at the thought of wasting money again when you haven’t even recuperated from all the holiday shopping, think again.

February 14th is known for bears, chocolates and over priced restaurants. We all know and love the cliché restaurants Miami is known for on this special day. Love Is Blind, Crazy About You, Rusty Pelican, Sugarcane… you know the drill. Although these places are elegant, they can get very crowded and pretty pricey. However, there are TONS of places in Miami that are low-key, lovey-dovey and won’t make your wallet cry.

  1. Spritz: 2305 Ponce de Leon Blvd, Coral Gables, FL 33134
    • This Mom and pop Italian restaurant is full of history and pasta that is to die for! Definitely try the Gnocchi; you wont regret it.
  2. El Carajo: 2465 SW 17th Ave, Miami, FL 33145
    • The smallest most unique Spanish restaurant in the most peculiar place. Tapas and wine galore!
  3. El Gauchito: 4315 NW 7th ST, Miami, FL 33126
    • If you’re a meat lover, this place is for you. I didn’t even know it was a Uruguayan restaurant until I looked it up. Live guitar or sax playing throughout your meal and low lighting for the perfect night.
  4. Pizza Pazza: 275 NE 18th ST, Miami, FL 33132
    • If you’re the casual kind who digs pizza and beer rather than the fancier scene this place is for you! Yummy Neapolitan style pizzas in a vintage ambiance.
  5. Sweetness Bakeshop: 9549 SW 72nd ST, Miami, FL  33173
    • I know I’m not alone when taking on dessert before dinner so if you have a strong sweet tooth then here’s where to go. This retro themed bakery and café has just about anything with sugar as an ingredient.

These are a few of the many restaurants Miami has to offer that wont have a 3 hour wait time on Valentine’s day. They are just as delicious, romantic, and more than likely, cheaper. Small spots like these are overlooked and under the radar, but that’s what makes them special. If you want to try something new and make your V-day date different from the rest, visit one of these hidden gems—I promise, they wont disappoint!
