This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

The new year welcomed new music by The Weeknd. He rang in 2022 with the drop of his new album “Dawn FM.” The artist made sure you tuned in to unveil 103.5 Dawn FM in club setting with The Weeknd as the DJ in his new OLD persona.

The album gives fans a fusion of electronic dance and 80’s R&B. The album has legendary comedian-actor Jim Carrey narrating that “you’ve been in the dark for way too long. It’s time to walk into the light and accept your fate with open arms.” He urges the listener to sit back and relax while you listen to music on 103.5 Dawn FM before you go into the light. Pitchfork does elaborate the meaning behind the album, but it can be interpreted as you’re stuck in purgatory looking back on the life you left behind and now you’re afraid of what comes next. That’s the beauty behind music, everyone can have a different perspective about it.

The Weeknd did announce to fans that they are currently in the new trilogy. “After Hours” starting off the trilogy in a care-free environment. Dawn FM hitting the marks as you look back in purgatory and it seems like the final album of the trilogy might be named “afterlife” after its name is slightly hinted during Jim Carrey’s narration. The name wouldn’t be too far off as the current album is about being in purgatory before heading off into the bright light.

Though it could be a while until The Weeknd drops the last album of the trilogy. Fans can hardly wait to see what he will think of next. So be sure to listen to both albums before the third one arrives.
