Fall is known for many things. Pumpkin Spice Lattes, fall inspired candles, dark colored nails, and bringing out your cozy fall-winter sweaters. As everyone is preparing for the fall, the film industry is preparing for award season. Fall is the official countdown to The Oscars. While The Oscars prepares for their show, many film festivals have begun. From the start of the Venice Film Festival to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which ended last week. From the looks of it, there are many promising films that were screened at TIFF. The reason why I am focusing on TIFF instead of other film festival is because TIFF just ended. Where as other film festivals took place in the summer, leading up to TIFF. As well as, TIFF is somewhat domestic- continent wise. Not only that, TIFF does not allow just well known, established directors, writers, and actors to their screenings but a lot of local and hidden talents within the country.

TIFF was first started in 1976 and has grown to be one of the most respected film festivals in the world. Most of the films that are screened at TIFF, have a real good chance at being nominated at The Oscars. Some of them actually end up winning major awards at The Oscars. This year, there were over 300 films (including international films) shown in 11 days and ultimately, 12 films won awards. TIFF has four major award categories but each category, breaks down into subcategories. The biggest award of the night is the Grolsch People’s Choice Award, where the audience casts their vote for their favorite movie during the festival. The rest of the categories are based on the jury. The jury gets to watch every film that was entered in the category and vote on the best. Here are the winners of TIFF and potential movies to watch out this fall:
