In the past week, Texas entered into an overwhelming winter storm with no room for preparation or resources. The people of Texas were blind-sighted and impacted gravely by this sudden storm as they were nowhere near prepared for the hit. Texas communities lacked the appropriate resources and infrastructure to brace this impact. In little time, an arctic freeze caused problems with the electrical grid, and roads became unsafe to use.

Texas operates differently than the rest of the United States. It operates on its own electrical grid while the rest of the country operates in two split grids. This leads Texas even further down because now that they are facing a state-wide power outage, the state couldn’t depend on the country’s supply. As of February 19th, there are approximately 325,000 Texans without power. Texas hospitals are so overwhelmed as they are losing resources and gaining patients. Many Texans are still without drinking water which has led to so many helpless alternatives that can cause even more damage. People have had to boil water as they deal with frozen wells and utilities. Attached are some resources for Texas relief that were put together by Impact Resources.

I'm a senior at FIU, majoring in Criminal Justice on the Pre-Law track. My goal is to one day go to law school and become a lawyer. I love to read mystery and thriller books that keep me guessing. I am an advocate for our generation being a catalyst to social justice. You could say Elle Woods is who I channel in life.
