People often claim that the reason why they can’t stay consistent with the gym is that they are either working too much, studying too much or have way too many things to do in general. Lives may be extremely busy, but one who is truly committed to a goal will not let anything get in the way of it. But, that’s beside the point. With everything going on in the world right now with the tragic coronavirus taking over, it has been established that the safest way to go about the situation is to practice social distancing and self-quarantine. Universities in Florida have been transferred from in-person to online officially and most job companies have closed temporarily. With that, most of us are spending much more time at home and many of us have not even left the house at all (myself included). So, the whole excuse of “not having time” because you have to be out and about or “not having energy” because you just have not stopped working will no longer be as valid. Understandably, life does indeed go on. Classes are still going through online meetings, exams are still being taken, and deadlines are still to be met. Some jobs have required online meetings as well. So, yes, just because we are quarantined does not mean life stops and we are no longer busy. But, it does leave much more room for self-care.

This quarantine time is a period that should be used wisely as a “pause” to our lives, instead of lying around in bed all day. Not only could this apply to exercise, but also spending time with your family, reading good books, and anything that will plant seeds for self-growth! I get it, Tik Toks and Netflix series sound much more exciting and entertaining than any form of exercise. A helpful, mental strategy I like to use is not allowing myself to do any of those “exciting” activities until after I have already finished my workout of the day (and any other task I have to get done). Amid papers and online work that must get done, I highly encourage everyone at home to save an hour of the day for themselves. Gyms are probably not the safest place to be right now. This is why I -being the great friend that I am to you all- have put together a Youtube playlist of workouts that could be done at home with no equipment necessary! Quarantine took me back to the days when I was 15, in high school, and I had no notion of how to lift weights or even had a gym membership. These workouts brought me back to the foundation of working out, as they are simple yet effective. It is a great way for beginners to get active. Even if you are more advanced in terms of fitness, it is still highly effective and will target every muscle of the body. I have personally completed every single one of these workouts included in the link attached to the article, which is why I recommend them and have seen results in myself. But, because these workouts are so basic and simple, they will be beneficial to everyone no matter what! They could be done anywhere in your house, including your living room, or if you have the privilege of having a big enough backyard, you may also take advantage of that. Also, on a side note, avoid binge eating and stack up on healthy snacks, such as carrots with hummus, kale chips, fruit salads, yogurt because remember there is no way to outwork a bad diet! Everybody is different and different things work for different people. If you have health conditions or have experienced difficulties in the past while exercising. I highly recommend you make sure any form of exercising is safe for you before trying anything!

As devastating as the events taking place in the world right now are, the best way to see it is to look at the bright side of every situation. This is a reminder that it all starts within us and if we are dwelling around at home, contemplating the severity of the situation and creating panic, it is not going to send out any good vibes to the universe. We cannot stress the things we have no control over. If you are staying home, practicing social distancing, washing your hands, and spreading kindness, you are already doing your best. Yes, we are quarantined right now and everything is closing, but that does not mean that life is going to stop for us and this will all go away sooner rather than later. Therefore, summer is still right around the corner and your health should be your priority… in all aspects!
