As we all come into the new year there is a lot of “new year new me” talk going around. Everyone has their resolutions ready to go and all the hope in the world that they’ll be able to keep them.

As most of you know the gym at FIU has been updated. Some of you have seen it for yourselves, it’s amazing. But what a lot of people don’t consider or know about is that the FIU recreational center offers personal training. A personal trainer is the perfect way to keep you not only motivated to meet those new year’s resolutions, but will push you on those days that you really don’t want to go. Hiring a personal trainer keeps you in check because you’re paying for it, you lose your money if you’re late or don’t show up and someone is keeping tabs on you!

When you have someone keeping you excited, keeping you motivated, keeping you honest with yourself about how skipping your workout will make you feel worse in the end, you’re going to have more luck staying consistent, and more luck reaching those goals.

When you first sign up for personal training, you have the option of going alone for one on one, or with a partner for two on one training. Getting a friend involved will only add to your support system, not to mention at FIU if you have partner training, the bill is cut in half! A friend will make sure you’re not going to McDonalds every week and you’ll also get into the habit of helping them out as well. The more you support one another the more likely you are to stay on track.

Now, when it comes to actually starting the process, you may be a little nervous. The consultation with your assigned trainer really makes your worries go away. The initial assessment tracks your stamina, your strength, your cardio skills, your form, how your body moves. You will be convinced by the end that this truly will be a program tailored to you and that is the best feeling in the world. This program is not just college students trying to make money on personal training. This program is as professional as they come. And it’s right on campus, another perk of being a panther. We all know personal training is expensive at any gym on top of paying for the membership itself, but at FIU we don’t pay a membership fee for the gym so why not go for it and invest in our health and goals. To save a few bucks definitely find yourself a partner! Here is the run down of the prices for both one on one and two on one packages.

Student (all sessions 1 hour)

  • 2 sessions = $70
  • 4 sessions = $125
  • 8 sessions = $230
  • 10 sessions = $280
  • 12 sessions = $325
  • 16 sessions = $400

Student & Partner (all sessions 1 hour) (includes pre-assessment)

  • 2 sessions = $35 ea.
  • 4 sessions = $60 ea.
  • 8 sessions = $115 ea.
  • 10 sessions = $130 ea.
  • 12 sessions = $165 ea.
  • 16 sessions = $200 ea.

See what I mean about cut in half. So now that you know the prices, the perks, (not to mention the cool personal training room that is only for personal trainers and their clients) consider this an option when trying to reach your goals, it may just be the push you need to get to the next level of fitness, or even the first step to learning how to really work out.

Good Luck!
