This past Wednesday FIU hosted its annual Relay for Life pageant. In case you missed out, here is what went down. Eight men and eight women took the stage in hope of becoming our Mr. & Miss Relay for Life 2014. All the contestants went through three rounds. The three rounds are as follow: Introduction, Costume, and Canning.

Introduction:

This round was filled with many touching stories from all the contestants on why they relay for life.

Costume:

Contestants dressed in different costumes and explained why they were dressed as they were. The costumes ranged from Batman to Mike Wazoski to an Illuminaria to many more.

Canning:

This round was very different than the others. All the contestants hopped off the stage and ran around the room collecting money from family and friends. It was a very interactive round in which the audience took part of.

After the first three rounds there was an intermission so that the judges could deliberate and make a cut. When the pageant resumed, four women continued on to the final round along with four men.

Formal Wear & Questions:

In this final round, contestants came out in their formal wear to answer two questions. One question dealt with the facts of Relay for Life, while the other question was more personal.

There was one more intermission after the final round. The judges again deliberated to decide who would be crowned the next Mr. & Miss Relay for Life.  If you missed the pageant don’t worry, we have the results! Viewer’s choice went to Jeremy Valor and Leilani Heredia.

Now the man and woman who were crowned as Mr. & Miss Relay for Life 2014 (drum roll please)…Mr. Nijat Zeynalov and Miss Kristen Nyman! Great job to all those who participated and a special congratulations to our new Mr. & Miss Relay for Life.

That wraps up this year’s Relay for Life Pageant. Make sure to come out to the Ryder Business Loop on February 28 – March 1, for the next Relay for Life event. We hope to see you there!
