Meet Christy Lopez, this week’s Campus Celebrity! Christy is a junior studying Public Relations. She is involved in many organizations around campus like Dance Marathon and she is on the executive board for FIU’s Pan-Hellenic Council. She’s not the easiest person to find because she is always on the go! She loves to travel (especially to DC!) and enjoys helping others and giving back! Read through her interview below to learn more about why Christy truly is a campus celeb!

What has been your favorite involvement at FIU so far?

My favorite involvement so far has definitely been going Greek. Joining a sorority has opened up doors to several opportunities for growth which have led me to the many other involvements that I hold dear.

What is your dream job?

I would love to be a Public Relations Director for a non-profit.

What woman inspires you and why?

The woman who inspires me is Rosa Parks. She is someone who led by example and set a standard. Our society is so used to things running the way that they think they’re supposed to be run and it isn’t until someone deviates from the “norm,” that our society can move along the line of progression. Sometimes we need those “changemakers” to push society forward and be a force of social change.

If you could describe yourself using a color, what color would you choose and why?

Yellow because the color yellow signifies optimism and cheerfulness. I think that life is too short to sweat the small stuff and instead of focusing our energy on the negative things, we should focus our energy on positive things that will empower us to make a difference in life.

Who has had a positive impact on your life and why?

Someone who has definitely made a positive impact on my life is my former boss, FIU alumna, and founder of Relay for Life at FIU, Marlene Quincoces. I had the pleasure of learning from her as an Event Intern and getting hands-on experience of what it’s like to plan and manage events. However, the reason why she has made such a positive impact in my life is because she introduced me to her own non-profit organization, PARK Project, which spreads the worldwide message to Perform Acts of Random Kindness. She founded this organization solely for the purpose of being kind to others. This has inspired me to be my best self and lend a helping hand whenever possible.

What advice do you have for women at FIU?

My advice to women at FIU is to just be yourself. My sorority has constantly been a backbone and reminder to be myself and love myself because there is no one else like me in this world. Don’t change who you are for the convenience of others because it’s your life and you should always feel your best. We are all beautiful and unique in our own ways!

If you had the opportunity to trade places with any one, who would you pick and why?

I would love to trade places with Sophia Bush! She starred in my all-time favorite TV series, One Tree Hill, and currently plays a role in Chicago P.D. Outside of her acting career; she is an activist for several social, environmental, and civil rights campaigns. I think a day in her shoes would make for an adventurous and unforgettable experience.

What is your favorite quote and why?

My favorite quote has to be Mark Twain’s “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover.” The reason I like this quote is because first and foremost, I love adventure. I love to discover something new and try things outside of my comfort zone. This quote inspires me to try new things, take chances, and not regret the opportunities that may knock.

Five fun facts about Christy:

1. I love to travel.

2. Chocolate ice cream is my favorite.

3. I talk a lot.

4. I play Madden NFL with my dad so often that it’s become a weekly ritual.

5. I have an adorable little niece!
