With November rolling in, most people are eager for time to fly by in order to head home for the holidays! The most wonderful time of the year is also seen as the most dreaded for college students as they prepare themselves for finals week. Having already had classes for around 16 weeks, students everywhere are tested on their knowledge of what they have learned throughout the entire semester. As a college freshman going through their first cycle of finals, you may feel overwhelmed (frankly, you may feel this at any point in your college career). As finals week is slowly approaching, I’m here to give you all 4 ways to ease through finals week:

Schedule time in advance to study Do not, under any circumstances, believe you are capable of learning a semester’s load worth of knowledge the night before an exam! Cramming does not work and if you attempt to do so, you will suffer the consequences. Rather than dedicating 12 hours the night before to study, you can study for an hour each day 12 days before the exam. If you space out your study time, you will definitely notice much improvement in your comprehension of the course.

Wake up early

To have enough time in the day to do all your daily tasks, work, classwork, and study, you may need to start waking up earlier than usual. Rather than spend the two hours before bed watching Netflix or scrolling through TikTok, go to sleep earlier so that you have more energy throughout the day to do everything you need to do! I’m not saying to never watch Netflix before going to bed again, but you should be cutting unnecessary activities out of your schedule until you complete your finals!

Eat a balanced meal

My mom always told me “you can’t study on an empty stomach.”, which I’ve learned is entirely true! Whenever I’m hungry, the only thing I can even think about is eating, what food I’ll get, and what I wish I could be eating. Notice what I didn’t mention? Not once when I’m hungry will I think of anything other than how to fix my hunger, let alone studying for a boring final! Be sure to eat all your meals so you can put your focus on what really matters.

Quizlet will be your best friend

My best study hack and bestie during finals weeks has to be Quizlet. I swear this post isn’t sponsored by Quizlet, but I can’t explain enough how much I adore this program! They offer so many great ways to study that leaves me so prepared for absolutely any exam. If you’ve never tried it before, check it out this finals season!

You may feel it’s a bit too soon to be talking about finals week, but it’s definitely on its way! Knowing these hacks will definitely prepare you to arrange your schedule and plan accordingly. Be sure to keep physical and mental health in check so you won’t feel ill the days leading up to your exams. If finals week is getting you down, just remind yourself of all the wonderful things you will get to do this winter break! Good luck to you all!
