It’s no secret that skincare has become an absolute essential step in the modern beauty routine. Whether you keep it simple with a face wash and moisturizer or have been loyal to the Korean 10-Step Beauty Routine (and if so — major props), healthy skin has become the goal for many of us. As college students, however, we don’t always have the money to shell out on the more luxurious, pricey brands — Drunk Elephant, I’m looking at you — but does that mean we have to sacrifice healthy skin? Absolutely not.

Though it takes a bit of sleuthing, there are loads of wonderful skincare options available at the drugstore or that sit on the cheaper end of the price spectrum. Not sure where to begin? We’ll help you get started.

Cerave

$$$

Founded in 2005, CeraVe is a one-stop shop for all things easy skincare. The brand was created by dermatologists, so you’ll know you’re doing something good for your skin every time you pop open one of their products. Plus, they have something for every possible skin type — from oily to dry, and everything in between. Their website has a convenient quiz you can take to find out which of their products will work best for you, too. You can find their products in your nearest drugstore or pharmacy.

The Ordinary

$$$

In the world of skincare, specialized products that target specific skin concerns are king. Things like Retinoids, Vitamin C, Lactic Acid, and Hyaluronic Acid can be super confusing at first, but The Ordinary makes it easy! Their website features a helpful FAQ and guide for finding the perfect skincare regimen. If you’re interested in expanding your skincare routine and targeting your specific needs, The Ordinary is the brand for you. The best part? Most of their products are under $10. You can find them online through their website or Sephora!

Bliss

$$$

It seems as though every time I walk through Target, I notice a new brand that piques my interest. Recently, Bliss has been that brand. It speaks to the millenial in all of us — from an entirely Rose Gold themed line, to a jelly cleanser that can serve as a dupe for Glossier’s. Their aesthetic alone is to die for, but the products themselves are also pretty great. You can find Bliss at Target, Ulta, or through their website.

Mario Badescu

$$$

By now, I’m sure you’ve already heard of the infamous drying lotion or rosewater spray by Mario Badescu. You won’t be surprised to find out the rest of the skincare line is pretty great, too. Though not entirely as economic as the previous options, MB provides the quality of a luxury skincare brand for a price that won’t break the bank. Their website also includes a skincare quiz and recommendations targeted to you and their skincare needs. Find them in-person at Ulta or on the Mario Badescu website!

TJ Maxx

$ – $$

Yep, you read that right. TJ Maxx is the perfect place for anyone trying to snag some high-end skin care while still bulking up their savings account. Though it’s certainly hit or miss, you can find products from expensive brands like Glam Glow, First Aid Beauty or Shiseido for a fraction of the price. They also have loads of skincare from lesser known brands that are just as affordable. Each TJ Maxx is different, so there’s no standard system, but that’s part of the fun! Each visit feels like a surprise. They have skincare available online, too, but in-person is where the magic happens.

Skin care is definitely something you should invest in — but that investment shouldn’t have to break the bank. If you’re looking for the next best way to step up your skincare routine, now you know where to start.
