There’s no doubt that 2020 was a year of many ups and downs. However, an unforgettable year nonetheless. As the year came to a close, I found myself reflecting on the past whirlwind of a year and couldn’t help but wonder what it was that made me feel so solemn about leaving this year behind. Then it hit me as I sat on my couch watching Gossip Girl re-reruns, that there went another year of my 20’s. Gone just like that, it was as if I had experienced a Freaky Friday moment. Reflecting back at my last two years in my second decade, I realized that apart from letting quarantine times slow me down, I had spent that past year mindlessly living life all while still worrying about what comes next. Understandably so, your 20’s are hard. We still have a lot of growing and learning to do but let’s take on these healthy habits for conquering the rest of our 20’s.

1. Money is time!

I get it, laying in bed scrolling through Tik Tok for a couple hours seems like the go-to morning ritual nowadays, but they don’t say the early bird takes the worm for nothing. We often fall into the redundant cycle of picking up unhealthy mindless habits that are oftentimes hard to break out of. Being more mentally aware of your energy and time is such a game changer. Now, I’m not saying that in order to be successful you have to make sure you beat the alarm every day. However, understanding that time is one of the only things that is hard to take back gives you a much more productive outlook on life. Start off small at first and then work your way up slowly but surely to ensure more productivity.

2. Slow Down!

I can speak for many of us millennials when I say that time has been moving way too fast. It was just yesterday that we were planning our Sweet 16! I can’t help but wonder to myself where the last decade of life has gone. Being able to enjoy these years are imperative to your outlook on life. Slow down and enjoy the successes you have achieved! In 2020, our endless months in quarantine gave us all an opportunity to reflect on today. Stop thinking so much about the “when I graduate” or the “when I finally get my summer body.” Get your studying done earlier and go out there and enjoy that girls night you had planned or wear that bikini that’s been collecting dust in your closet! Start enjoying the you that exists today because one day, you’ll be looking back wishing you did.

3. Dive Deeper Into Self love

When was the last time you took a day to yourself? Seriously, have you had a whole day of self love and pampering lately? Giving yourself time to unplug and stray away from your daily checklist not only gets you in a positive attitude, but boosts your awareness in other areas of life. It is important to make time for yourself and have that Spa Day just as high up on your to-do list as your 6 am workout. In this new year, let’s learn how to quit sacrificing your mental and emotional state for our traditional responsibilities. You’re young and although our responsibilities now seem overwhelming, adulthood is approaching fast and the luxury of having our bio exam be our biggest stressor of the week will be soon gone.
