Halloween Horror Nights

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

Happy October! As Halloween slowly approaches, it’s time to take advantage of Halloween Horror Nights here in Orlando, Florida! Halloween Horror Nights this year has its theme centered around the popular T.V show Stranger Things, and horror films Poltergeist and Halloween 4. This year, they’ve added more houses than they have before, with a total of 10 horror filled experiences waiting for you to try them out. 5 scare zones filled the park as well, themed after Chuckie, The Harvest, Vampires, Killer Clowns, and Twisted Tradition.

As a first timer myself, I was pleasantly surprised with how much fun I actually had. I’m not one to really like being scared, so I stay away from horror films that are too intense, and Horror Nights was definitely on my list of “do not do”. I was truly shocked at how fun this experience was, and how many houses I was actually able to go to. In-between houses with scare zones, I found interacting with the workers was the best way for you to get through it and not be terrified for your life, and if you weren’t looking at all directions and missed one of the workers hiding nearby, you’d get a good scare that honestly lasted a few seconds at most and made you laugh that you were able to get scared in such a silly manner.

The houses were great, and the experience was worth everything. The total of ten houses included Stranger Things, Carnival Graveyard, Scary Tales, Poltergeist, The Horrors of Blumhouse, Dead Exposure, Slaughter Sinema, Trick’rTreat, Seeds of Extinction, and Halloween 4. All of them had different levels of horror, and different experiences that would either have you on edge or would keep you getting scared back to back. That being said, I definitely think if you are going to head to Horror Nights there are a few houses that you HAVE to hit up before you leave for the night.

If you’re a Stranger Things fan, you can either do that one first, or leave it for the end of the night, the wait time is going to be long either way and there are definitely other houses that are just as great to get done so you can enjoy it at the end. The Slaughter Sinema was the best house Horror Nights had to offer by far, and I highly suggest doing this house as soon as you can. It had 9 different slaughter films in one house which made for an experience genuinely worthwhile. Halloween 4 was a close second as it was truly terrifying and thrilling to say the least. Poltergeist was also really cool, with scares that you couldn’t predict.

The Horror Nights houses each have a different environment, experience, and overall thrill factor that would satisfy anyone out there looking to get scared. Horror Nights is running now until November 3rd, and they offer some awesome deals on their website! If you’re thinking about going but weren’t too sure, grab a squad of your favorite people (the more the merrier) definitely go check it out, and get spooked all night!
