You ask we deliver. This week’s Campus Celebrity is Giselle Cancio at the request of you fellow collegiettes. Giselle may be best known for throwing FIU’s biggest concert yet, but take a look at this interview to find out more about the former Homecoming Overall Director.

Age: 21

Major: Broadcast Journalism & Early Childcare Education

Year: Senior

What are you involved in on campus?

Currently I’m Omicron Delta President, Order of Omega President and Alpha Xi Delta President. Throughout my years at FIU, I have been involved with the Homecoming Council for three years, most recently being the 2013 Overall Director, and Dance Marathon in which I served as a morale captain for two years.

We hear that you have received an internship, tell us a little bit about it?

I currently have an internship at the CW Network, which is an affiliate of the Sun Sentinel. It was an amazing opportunity that I was presented with, and I love every second of it. I am helping one of the hosts, Dave Aizer, with the three shows he writes/hosts and/or produces. The shows are Inside South Florida, Get Some and Eye Opener. Inside South Florida is essentially a 30 minute talk show where different members of the community are interviewed and it has a myriad of topics. Some people that come in will give advise on how to improve spacing in your house, and others will come in explaining medical surgeries. It’s literally for “interesting” people in the area to share their hobbies or careers. Get Some is a show where Dave and a relationship/love therapist, Dr. Lisa Paz, discuss how to improve your relationship and intimate life. They answer questions from viewers and cover different topics ranging from intimacy to cheating or even fitness. The last show I work with is Eye Opener is a morning news show that covers sports and entertainment. I’m given the chance to write stories for the show and I’ve noticed I need to enjoy the Miami Culture and events a little bit more.

Who inspires you?

With the exception of my mother, that has always shown me to believe in myself and reach for the stars even when they aren’t in the distance, for those who know me this is probably an obvious answer, but my inspiration is Walt Disney. This was a man who was turned down time and time again, but continued to strive to bring his dreams and ideas to life. He never gave up because he wanted a world where children and families, together, can have fun, which is where the concept of Walt Disney World came about. His success derived from his persistence and determination to bring his dreams to life. Every day, I remind myself to be the best version of myself, because there’s no other me on Earth.

How would FIU students to remember you once you graduate?

To be honest, I hope I’m remembered as the girl who put on a pretty awesome Homecoming.. haha. But realistically, I just want to be remembered as someone who tried her best in everything she was a part of.
