There’s nothing like a good college football rivalry game, right? This past Thursday, October 7, our FIU Panthers took on The FAU Owls in a football showdown.
With the recent changes to tailgating rules, many didn’t think the tailgates would still be enjoyable. They thought wrong. As always, multiple FIU fraternities, sororities and club organizations took to Tamiami park to prepare for the game. There was music, food, and dancing. But what’s new?
With FAU fans out in abundance in Tamiami, FIU fans made sure to show their school spirit before, during and after the game. Miami’s sporadic weather behavior didn’t stop fans from tailgating or cheering on their teams at the game.
A 13 year old tradition, The Don Shula Bowl game made its way back to The Cage this past Thursday. The Don Shula Bowl is named after former Miami Dolphins Head Coach Don Shula. Both colleges have ties to the former coach, therefore the name was perfect for the football showdown. After suffering a heart-breaking loss to the Owls (21-6) in last year’s bowl, the FIU football team came out with a vengeance this time around. With the Panthers leading at half time, with a score of 14-10, Miami’s predictably unpredictable weather ensued in the cage. The stormy weather put a halt on the game. After nearly a two hour long weather delay, the game was back on. Our FIU Panthers won the Shula Bowl trophy 38-10 to the FAU Owls!
