Do it with Passion or Not at All

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

Have you ever spoken to someone who was extremely excited about something they loved?

Maybe it was a certain sport, hobby or person they were talking about. I notice when I speak to someone who contains this enormous amount love for something, their passion for it isn’t just found through their words, but it’s written all over their face. The way their eyes glow and grow extremely wide, the way their smile seems to never slip, and the way they mouth their sentences so confidently and without hesitation. When you speak to them, you have this moment where you’re like “man, this person is in love with what they are talking about.” And I think that we all should have this type of passion for something. There is something that ignites our souls, that is different for every person individually, that should mesmerize you and people should notice it immediately.

Every person has something they’re over the top crazy about, and if they don’t, they’ll soon find it. I think you find your passion through different experiences, environments and people. The more you step out and place yourself into a different scenery, the more you’ll likely pick up on something you love, or would love to start making a change towards. For me, it didn’t take much for me to fall in love with children. Teaching them in Sunday school, letting them braid my hair and partially rip half of it off (LOL) and playing silly games that don’t mean much to us as adults but mean the world to them that make them laugh like there’s nothing funnier in the world to them, was easy enough for me to fall in love with. The opportunities I’ve been lucky enough to experience have brought me to realize how passionate I was about the little people of our world. Once you discover your passion, I think it adds more excitement and momentum to your life.

The people who pick up on a passion are always the ones willing to step out of their comfort zones. They run for a certain position for a club or organization, release their piece of music for the world to listen to and step up and put aside their fear to take on a role for people who need them. Passionate people have to do something uncomfortable to find what their heart finds the most comfort in doing. I believe everyone has something to be excited about, and if you haven’t found it yet—keep looking. The world is full of too many exhilarating things to live a life pretending it’s dull. Discover what sets your heart of fire and go voraciously after it—the world needs someone like you to keep it captivating and to remind people how captivating it is too.
