If you have had a social media account for the past couple of years, then you are probably familiar with what is referred to as the French girl look or French girl aesthetic. This style of fashion was originally popularized on Instagram and Pinterest, and it has recently become popular again thanks to TikTok. The French girl look can be considered timeless because of its chic simplicity. It consists of different elements that although they seem ordinary come together to create a sultry fashionable look. Representatives of this look are Dakota Johnson, Alexa Chung, and influencers like Jeanne Damas; definitely not Lily Collins’ “Emily in Paris”.

To recreate the French girl look, you will need to know what it entails. The look is made up of mainly natural and effortless features, accompanied by wearing neutral colors and maintaining a clean and light complexion that fuses into a put-together look. Wearing neutral colors such as white, black, beige, and brown shades is ideal; blouses, trousers or slacks, plain shirts, and t-shirts, as well as jackets and blazers, with a comfy yet fashionable pair of shoes, are elements of this look.

The main component, however, is the makeup or lack thereof. The French girl’s makeup is light to the point that no foundation is essential, rather opt for wearing concealer to correct any discoloration or blemishes. Additionally, a muted yet visible blush is also necessary to keep your cheeks rosy and flushed to compliment the natural complexion; absolutely no contour or baking for this look! Fake lashes are also something to be replaced by mascara to keep it natural. The main ingredient to this look is to choose between what to accentuate: are you feeling a bold lip or bold eyes? You can’t have both for this look, unfortunately, because the main goal of the look is to look natural with your own accentuated yet effortless beauty. Keep it sultry!

The French girl look is definitely a simple one because its whole purpose is to express how effortless it is to look beautiful and put together. It is a look that emphasizes the fact that although we are busy people, we can still look put together and fashionable. It is very similar to the clean-girl look, and it may be considered ideal for corporate girlies that want to appear professional yet feminine and subtly sexy.
