It has been dominating the box office for the past few weeks and people can’t stop talking about it.

Crazy Rich Asians is probably the only movie people are talking about right now, and for a good reason. The movie has something for everyone. Good looking people, fabulous fashion, traveling to a foreign country, and most importantly, a beautiful love story.  However, those are not the only reasons why people and critics are applauding Crazy Rich Asians. This is a movie that is breaking rules in Hollywood, and the audience is loving it.

This is the first Hollywood movie to ever star an entire cast of Asians, in which they all play leads. This is a big deal when it comes to representation in Hollywood because there is so little representation in the industry. One of the biggest fears producers have in the film industry is whether or not their movie or tv show is going to be successful. No one can deny the amount of money, work, and time that is involved in the entertainment industry. That is why producers stick to a certain recipe and do not want to try something new. This explains why there is a lack of diversity in Hollywood, and when there is diversity, they are rarely the lead of the movie/tv show.

Along with representation in Crazy Rich Asians, the movie is providing a different perspective into the Asian culture. Generally, when there are Asians in movies, it can be a very stereotypical character. An Asian character who is probably excelling in school and is a bit socially awkward. With Crazy Rich Asians, each character is so different and so relatable within the Asian community. No one is exactly the same so why would a movie or tv show create characters that are identical to each other. Even though, these Asians represent probably the 1% of the Asian population, the audience get to see a different world. A world in which they never imagined.

Crazy Rich Asians speaks volumes and represents more than crazy rich Asians. If there is one thing Hollywood can learn from Crazy Rich Asians is that diversity sells. The movie keeps bringing in a profit, critics keep praising the movie, and people keep going back to the theaters to watch it. The audience is not afraid to see something new and different on screen. In fact, they want to see it. Crazy Rich Asians is not just a movie, it’s a game changer.
