We all know how stressful school can be, especially now during a global pandemic. Most of us are inside the house for most of the day, doing classes on Zoom, or even working remotely,  and it just isn’t the same anymore. But out of all things listening to music, or simply having music on as background noise, keep me calm and sane. I compiled up a playlist on Apple Music titled, “vibez.” It is about 43 minutes long and it ranges from artists like Teyana Taylor, Jhené Aiko, Ariana Grande, and some others that I hope you enjoy. Here are the songs that are featured on the playlist and explanations as to why I decided to add these songs.  Some artists are featured multiple times, from the same album, therefore they will be explained first.

Ariana Grande- Positions (Album)

Just Like Magic

Off the Table (ft. The Weeknd)

– Ariana Grande did make such an outstanding album, in my opinion. Not only does she make you feel like you’re about to party or have a little get-together with your friends but these songs in particular just really calm me down personally.  Specifically, “Off the Table” really makes me calm down, soothes my mind, and makes me sometimes re-evaluate certain choices but ultimately makes me calmer.

Teyana Taylor – The Album (Album)

Wake Up Love (ft. Iman)

Made It

– Just as I did previously, I decided to add in multiple songs from Teyana’s album, “The Album.” Teyana Taylor is also such an amazing artist, overall, especially in the music industry, and in the R&B community. These few songs that I have chosen gives off such a different feeling. Starting with, “Wake Up Love ft. Iman,” this song makes you feel so loved and serene while listening. The moldy is simple, and her voice isn’t too high or too low. We move onto “Made It” and it makes you feel just so accomplished and established. That is why it is at the end of the playlist if you were to play it through, without shuffling the last song will be this one.  To leave you with that accomplished feeling.

Jhené Aiko- Chilombo (Album)

Above and Beyond (Piano Edition)

Speak

– Jhené Aiko is known for making such peaceful, but yet very loud music. With this one album, she did just that, and these songs that have been chosen are not even the only ones that I wanted to add. I just really needed to cut it down or the playlist would have been solemnly Jhené. Adding in “Above and Beyond” but the piano edition I feel like was a smart decision, as the song is already very soft, but the piano just adds more softness to the song. With the second “Speak” it makes you just breathe, as weird as it sounds it truly does. It gives you a sense of clarity which is great for when you’re trying to concentrate on a project, work, etc.

SZA

20 Something

– This song was added because I truly adore the acoustic guitar being played in the background. The song talks about being “20 something,” I am currently 20 and most of my friends are in their 20s so overall this song just speaks to me. It also just reminds me that my 20s are all about growth and living. I need to just take a breath; whether it be stressing out over life or school this song just reminds me that all is okay.

Good Days

– Same as this song that is currently on the charts, SZA sincerely knows how to create music that is used to heal or even to reprocess. She did it again with this song, it keeps me leveled to remember that no matter what it’ll be a good day, try not to stress it. Especially as I suffer from anxiety, as millions do also this song is just a great reminder all will be okay.

Rotimi

Want More ft. Kranium

–  Most of you know Rotimi as an actor from Power, but he is also a singer/songwriter. Now, “Want More” was added simply off the fact that I love the beat. Now this song I would not recommend doing during a study session by yourself but possibly while you might be cleaning, or a group study session based on the fact the song is upbeat.

J.Cole

Crooked Smile ft. TLC

–  An oldie but most definitely a goodie. This song just needed to be added, it sends off such an amazing message that I just think everyone needs to hear and have in mind. You are beautiful the way you are, do not care what others say or think. This message is simply a beautiful message that needs to be added to this playlist, also the fact that J. Cole is such an amazing lyrical, and talented artist that needs recognition.

Bryson Tiller

Outta Time ft. Drake

– Bryson Tiller has always been such a great artist when it comes to the genre of music that he delivers, which is R&B. The song, “Outta Time ft. Drake” is just a very indulging beat that is not loud at all. It has a very low tempo, and both artists sang so softly and nicely which is just perfect for study sessions, not distracting at all.
