We have pretty much reached the middle of the semester and midterms are hopefully done with by this time. There have been numerous sleepless study nights and even longer days in class and everything else that comes with life of a college student. At this point it’s probably getting harder and harder to maintain your regular routines and most of all your sanity. The only thing to do is give yourself a break not too long though you don’t want to go off the rails. There are various ways to do this even if it’s just for the weekend go out and do something new even if it means going to the gym for the first time, maybe from there you can start a new routine, go out for a walk or a run or go kayaking. There are various activities sponsored by FIU so take advantage of them and make sure you experience as much as you can during your college years. There are various art exhibits within the area and there’s even one on campus! Trust me, there are far too many people that have never seen the Frost Art Museum or even been to that side of campus. Then again you can just tour the school, take a night tour of the campus but not alone ladies, we’ve all heard about the infamous butt grabber who’s yet to be found unfortunately. Once you’ve explored the museum stay around for a movie night, they happen every weekend.

Whether you take a weakened break or just one day off make sure you do it and take full advantage of it. Not everyone likes to go out to bars or clubbing every weekend (myself included) but we do like to go out at night, why not go star gazing at the observatory or go kayaking at night and for those that are new stick to the day time. It might get rough out there especially if you can’t see where you’re going or you’re afraid of the dark and even worse what might be swimming around right under your nose. Fine, so maybe there might not be a great white swimming around the bay but Halloween is coming up soon so choose wisely of whom you want to go kayaking with at night. Now this activity isn’t for everyone trust me coming from someone who can barely sit still it won’t hurt to try, meditation in any form is helpful whether it’s yoga or sitting in your dorm room and listening to soft classical music. Remember breaks are necessary, but don’t take too much advantage of them!! Go FIU! Go Panthers!

A kid raised in Brooklyn, New York home of fashion, art and great culture. The greatest thing to happen to me was living in the city in a sense it was a love/hate relationship because of the area in which I grew up in. Then there was Manhattan filled with all the lights and glamour and things that were on the big screen. Once I moved to Florida it was in a small town called Bradenton which was a huge culture shock because it was the total opposite from what I was used to in every sense ranging from transportation to people. Then there was the care free atmosphere in which shirts and shoes are optional and thong sandals are an every day thing opposed to the city where that is a rare find. Living in Bradenton gave me a different outlook on things and humbled me in a sense. Then moving to Miami for school brought me back to my city roots except with a different view on things and my motivation now is to gain success and not material things as I once dreamed of attaining.
