Arts+Entertainment District Holds Hurricane Benefit Concert

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

Hurricane Irma has come and gone but her destruction is still being dealt with in the Caribbean and in the Florida Keys. Now that Miami has been able to stand on its feet again, our community has been actively organizing relief funds to assist the Florida Keys and Caribbean to getting them back up and running as well. Just last Thursday on September 21 the Arts + Entertainment District held a rooftop concert supply drive. The A+E District was able to partner up with United Way of Miami Dade and host a drive to collect supplies to assist those in dire need. The rooftop concert was lead by Brendan O’Hara as he shared his talented vocals, guitar and keyboard skills. All bar proceeds also went to Hurricane relief efforts.

As Miami Flea continues to be a popular event held each month with live music, food and a variety of local vendors, this past Sunday they also hosted a Hurricane Relief Drive. Items such as canned foods, water, toiletries, diapers, cleaning supplies, flashlights, electric fans, batteries and so forth were collected to help the areas affected by the storm.

Though Hurricane Irma brought devastation to many, it is a beautiful thing to see communities come together to help those in need. If the amount of relief efforts continue as they are now, it hopefully wont be much longer before complete restoration.
