This week’s Campus Celebrity is Angie Pardo! Angie is currently 20 years old, in her third year at FIU, and is majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Marketing. Her outstanding leadership skills have led her to hold many prestigious leaderships positions within the Panther community such as her current title, Vice President of Programming of Delta Phi Epsilon. Amongst all the craziness of Campus Man finally being wrapped up and the craziness of Relay for Life just beginning, I got a chance to meet up with our current and very busy Homecoming Princess to find out exactly how she manages to do it all while wearing her invisible crown and nonetheless remaining sane.
What Exactly do you wish to accomplish with degree in Public Relations?
Eventually, I would love to become the Media Relations Coordinator for the MIAMI Heat. That is basically my big-time dream.
What are your involvements on campus?
Currently, I am the Vice President of Programming for Delta Phi Epsilon – Alpha Gamma Chapter. I am also an FIU Student Ambassador under the Student Alumni Association, Tour Guide under the Undergraduate Admissions office, and Relay for Life Team Captain for Delta Phi Epsilon. My past involvements include: Peer Mentor 2013 under the Undergraduate Advising Office, Peer Leadership Consultant and Dance Marathon participant under the Center for Leadership & Service, FIU Delegate for the LeaderShape South Florida program, and the Leadership & Development Coordinator for Delta Phi Epsilon.
What made you fall in love with your sorority, Delta Phi Epsilon?
I fell in love with Delta Phi Epsilon because of its mission and motto. “Esse Quam Videri”, meaning “To be rather than to seem to be”, stuck like glue the minute I heard it. I always thought myself to be a leader rather than a follower, and the motto exemplified just that. I was also heavily drawn to DPhiE’s P.E.A.R.L. (Personal Enrichment Activities for Responsible Living) Program, which motivates sisters to develop themselves into well-balanced women.
You programmed Campus Man this year, one of the largest philanthropic male pageants within the Greek community. What significance does Campus Man hold to you personally?
Campus Man is the opportunity for Delta Phi Epsilon to raise awareness about a very influential cause and to search for a potential philanthropic representative for our organization. This year, as the Vice President of Programming, I emphasized the importance of working towards a goal that could potentially save the lives of many children suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. Whether it was through donating or simply attending the events, I wanted participants to understand that THEY were the reason for Campus Man’s success in benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Do you have any time management tips you can offer to others who wish to be as involved on campus as you?
PRE-PLAN EVERYTHING. I am the biggest stickler for living by an agenda, so I pretty much write down every single task/event/priority/reminder that I have to attend or do each semester. It has saved my life for the past 3 years, and I would be completely lost without it.
What advice would you give to college students who are striving to not only graduate, but to make the best experience of their college years?
As a tour guide, I meet many prospective students applying to FIU, and every time I do, I encourage them to get involved on campus. Living on campus is very convenient, however, I have learned personally it is not the only way to receive the typical college experience. It is through my academics and involvements that I stay alert and attentive towards what I want in life, including graduating on time with a list of accomplishments. I advise all younger college students to pick a target far into their future and focus on it. There is nothing more rewarding than reaching a certain goal that took many obstacles to get to.
Is there a particular quote that you live by?
“There are only good days and great days.”
