5 Ways To Romanticize Fall While In Miami

As a native Miamian, I’m no stranger to the strange weather patterns of our beloved city. One of these being how it stays one of the only cities in the U.S. that doesn’t get cold when the seasons change. And with fall as my favorite season, it definitely feels a least a little bit alienating to see everyone else in the country enjoying the crisp weather and comforting vibes. So, whenever we’re not experiencing a rare 60-degree cold front, I like to try and experience fall in my own way (that isn’t just turning the air in my house super cold). Today, I’d like to share those tips with all of you. Let’s get started!

1. Scents around the house

As a personal lover of candles, one thing I love to do to get in the fall spirit is light a fresh pumpkin, cinnamon, or any autumn-scented candle. Filling my room with the smell of one of these candles is the perfect way to set the mood for the season. If you can’t or don’t like to light candles due to fire safety, a great alternative to this is a candle warmer. It uses a lightbulb to warm the candle wax and spread the scent around the entire house. Amazon and T.J. Maxx have them for around $20. Another great alternative is fall-scented air freshener.

2. Bake some treats

I’ve been baking ever since I was allowed to touch the scarier utensils of the kitchen, and one thing I love to do when fall comes around is bake some delicious fall treats! Whether it is apple pie, a pumpkin loaf, even some snickerdoodle cookies, or any kind of homey spiced treat, baking fall recipes is a great way to get into the fall spirit. This can also go hand in hand with our first tip, as baking is sure to fill your home with divine scents!

3. cHANGE UP YOUR MUSIC

With the way I listen to music, I like to change what I listen to depending on the season of the year. Spring is for modern pop-indie artists, summer is for 2000s pop girls, and winter is for christmas music, and then a more alternative vibe for January and February. To get into the right mood for fall, I like to listen to some more jazzy artists, some quick examples being Laufey, Raye, and even some Clairo here and there. There’s also the classic jazz artists, like Ella Fitzgerald and such. Listening to these slower songs in the fall helps me feel right in line with the nature of the season.

4. Visit a pumpkin patch

While we might be lacking in weather changes this fall, one thing Miami does not lack is its fair share of pumpkin patches! With different farms located all around the Kendall area, all with fun activities, visiting a local pumpkin patch for the day is a great way to fully immerse yourself in the fall spirit.

5. Watch some fall entertainment

Finally, one thing I love to do to make it feel more like fall is to just watch movies and TV shows that take place in the fall! Watching a few episodes of Gilmore Girls, crying to the end of Dead Poets Society, envying Nicole Kidman’s hair while watching Practical Magic, or cheering along to the end of When Harry Met Sally really helps me feel like I’m experiencing fall with them, despite living in a place with normal 80-degree weather.

With this all in mind, I hope all of you can take this and apply it to the rest of the fall season we have, despite how hot it still gets outside. Make the most of it!

Through her journey with HerCampus, she hopes to strengthen her writing abilities and speak out to an audience of people like her, sharing whatever wisdom or insight she has to offer. She loves to take predominantly male dominated media (superhero movies, comic books, action and sci-fi movies, etc), cut out the toxic masculinity, and analyze it in a different light. She believes art should never be for just one group of people, and everyone should be able to enjoy it and create it in their own way.

When she's not busy with school work, internship prep, or writing articles, you can find her at the movie theater for the 4th time this week, getting ready for a concert with her friends, or playing her favorite video games in a cozy corner of her room. With her position on the FIU HerCampus team, she hopes to give the rest of the world a little peak into her mind and share how she sees things with them!
