Living in a city like Miami, Florida can make it a bit difficult to fully embrace the feeling of Christmas. We may live where most vacation and those up north most certainly envy us for our year-round warmth, but sometimes we can’t help but wish we had their weather during this time of year. Chilly mornings, snowy days, hot chocolate, and wearing chunky sweaters without sweating buckets would be an absolute dream. Here are five ways to get into the Christmas spirit if you’re living in Miami or any warm city.

have a christmas movie marathon

Be ready to snuggle in a soft, warm blanket with some hot chocolate and pick out movies to watch throughout December. You can choose to plan them out whichever way you’d like according to your schedule, like starting off with one movie a week or moving up to one per day during the week leading up to Christmas. If you’re feeling extra festive, you can watch these movies during the 12 days leading to Christmas. After all, National Christmas Movie Marathon Day is on December 23rd! Here’s a list of the 72 best Christmas movies of all time to help you get started on picking your movies.

DECORATE

They say there’s no place like home for the holidays, so make it count! You may already have plans to decorate a Christmas tree and put some lights up outside, but look a little further. How can you decorate your room? Consider seasonal bedsheets, throw pillows, lights, bedside table decorations, and of course, a scented candle. My favorite this season is The Perfect Christmas from Bath and Body Works.

Make a playlist

Set the tone with a playlist for the month. You can either create your own or find one that’s already been made on Spotify or Apple Music. Play it at home, on car rides, or whenever you’re in the mood.

VISIT LOCAL EVENTS

There is an array of different events and places to check out this December in Miami, or wherever you may be. You may just be having a hard time finding them. One of my favorite ways to check out what’s happening during the month is through dedicated blogs, TikTok accounts, or Instagram accounts that keep you updated on events. A good one is bucketlisters.com, which currently has Miami’s Ultimate Winter Bucket List. It includes events such as attending Zoo Lights Miami, the Bayfront Holiday Village, tree lightings, and more. Grab a friend and make some memories!

BAKING

Whether baking is your thing or not, making some seasonal treats is always fun. There is no difference between choosing to bake from scratch or buying pre-packaged dough or mixes. You can keep things simple by making chocolate chip cookies or sugar cookies to pair with your hot cocoa, or take things up a notch and make gingerbread cookies and other special treats. Here are some easy and delicious recipes to inspire you this Christmas. This is also the perfect time to bring out that holiday playlist.

I hope this helps you lift your holiday spirit and enjoy the most wonderful time of the year!
