As the years go by, our beautiful Earth gets mistreated constantly and unfortunately we’re starting to see her beauty dwindle every day. Fortunately, technology is advancing and the people who care about the environment are starting to work towards trying to save the Earth. Although these inventions sound farfetched, these and many more inventions are out there in the world to try to help make Earth a better place to live in.

1. Old plastic water bottle lightbulbs.

On average humans by one million plastic bottles per minute and only about 23% of those plastic water bottles get recycled. In the Phillipines, the Liter of Light project decided to take advantage of this excessive use of water bottles for an amazing cause. This project aimed to help give electricity to the one-twelve million homes that have no power or have their electricity shut down. Here’s how the plastic bottle lights work: the water bottle is filled with filter water and a small amount of bleach, a micro solar panel is placed inside an old plastic water bottle, and then the bottle is installed in the roof of the resident’s homes. This invention helps light the homes and streets of these impoverished areas at the fraction of the cost.

2. Mr. Trash Wheel.

Surely the video of this invention has shown up on various individual’s social media feed. This boat-like contraption uses the power of water and sunlight to help pick up the trash from the Jones Falls River in Baltimore. Mr. Trash Wheel has collected about 999 tons of trash from the river which include: 753,099 plastic bottles, 920,154 Polystyrene containers, and 10,947,000 cigarette butts. Mr. Trash Wheel uses the current from the river to power the water wheel which in turn lifts the trash from the water and puts it into a dumpster barge. When the current isn’t enough to move the water wheel, Mr. Trash Wheel uses the solar panels it has.

3. The Seabin.

A seabin is essentially a trashcan but for the ocean. The seabin can be placed in the water of marinas, ports, and any calm water environment that may need some cleaning up. The seabin works by sucking in water from the surface which then passes by a catch bag that is inside of the seabin, after the water passes through the catchbag, the water is pumped back to where it came from and any litter stays in the seabin. The seabin can hold a total of 44 pounds of debris from a body of water but can take in more if checked and emptied regularly.

4. Edible packaging.

Saltwater Brewery decided to do their part in saving the environment by making packaging that is 100 percent biodegradable and edible to animals. The six pack rings are made of barley and wheat ribbons that are left over from the brewing process.

5. Waterlily.

Waterlily is a device that can charge USB devices through the power of water and wind. If camping and in need of a device to charge an electronic device, the waterlily can be put in water or put in a windy area and it receives its power this way.

These inventions are beyond fascinating and all the possibilities are never-ending. If more companies and engineers start caring for the environment and start inventing more products like these, there may be hope for our Earth after all.
