5 Ways To Give Back This Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIT chapter.

As the holiday season is currently in full swing, it’s always a great idea to give back and help and support others in need. Now more than ever, it’s just as important to do the right thing during these challenging times! Below are ways you can give back and become involved this holiday season.

1. Donate

Any donation goes a long way! Whether it be donating money to support your favorite charity organization or donating clothing and food to the less fortunate, these actions are never taken for granted and are always appreciated. Personally, one of my favorite ways to give back each year is by partnering with my local radio station and participating in an “Adopt A Child” program where I am able to purchase and donate their Christmas gifts.

2. Shop Local

Local businesses need support from their communities now more than ever as many are struggling to stay open. Many businesses are hurting and many have shut down for good, the least we can do is shop local to keep those that are open alive! Consider purchasing your holiday gifts from local businesses. I often find the most unique and special gifts for friends and family when I shop local.

3. Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to help an organization! It is not only beneficial to the organization, but it is a rewarding experience that makes you feel good and connects you to your community. There are many places you can volunteer at that will align with your interests!

4. Send Holiday Cards To Hospitals And Nursing Homes

Send a holiday card to put a smile on someone’s face! This year like no other, these facilities are becoming more strict in many areas and not allowing visitors. This means many patients will not be able to spend the holiday with their loved ones. A card will not only brighten their day but will help them feel less isolated and lonely.

5. Random Acts Of Kindness

Practice gratitude this holiday season with random acts of kindness. For example, during the holiday season what comes to mind is when at a drive-through, someone may offer to pay for the person behind them. This small gesture can go a long way!

Actions always speak louder than words and will leave you feeling great in the end!
