Natural Hair Care Product Review: Conditioners

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FAMU chapter.

The general job of a conditioner is to moisturize hair strands from the root to tip. It changes the appearance of the hair by making it look shinier and has a softer feel to the touch. Not conditioning your hair after washing is like not adding fabric softener to the wash. No matter what your hair texture is or whether your hair is healthy or not, you need to condition. The essentials to look for in conditioners are oils, jojoba, avocadoes, or Shea butter. Condition every time you wash your hair. If you have color treated hair, you should definitely be conditioning regularly. Dye dries your hair and makes it more brittle. Conditioning your hair after you wash it helps to keep your strands healthy. It helps to tame it and make it more manageable. It adds to the natural moisture and gives shine, spring, and intensity. Here’s a list of great, reasonably priced conditioners that are sure to do the trick to keep your hair looking shiny, healthy and au-natural!

“Phenomenal product! I have been using this product for the past 5 months. I use it not only in my mid-week washes since I workout so much but also part of my deep conditioning routines on the weekend as well. I am able to detangle my 4a/4b hair with a wide tooth comb much easier than before. It smells wonderful and a little bit goes a long way. I love how it feels and makes my hair look after I wash. Highly recommend and will be using this product for a long time. So thankful I can find it in my neighborhood Walgreens and Sally Beauty supply stores…”

“This conditioner is great. I use it like a regular conditioner every time I co-wash my hair. It has AMAZING SLIP. Makes my hair really soft and easy to comb. I find it works best when I rake the conditioner through my hair and let it sit, if my hair is too tangled, I add the conditioner and let it sit…then comb it. Love this!”

“Silicones, schmilicones. This conditioner leaves me (3b) with awesome curls. I don’t care for the smell, but I keep coming back to this conditioner because it rocks – defined, shiny, smooth curls every time I use it! And the price is right too.”

“I LOVEEEE this conditioner! This is my staple conditioner. It has great slip, it’s supeerrrr moisturizing, it’s great at detangling, and the best part…IT SMELLS AMAZING!! No other conditioner gets me so…excited! I used to use it when I was finger detangling at the beginning of the summer and loved it (haven’t gotten anything better) but stopped using it because I needed to use so much when finger detangling so I really only got 3 or 4 uses out of it. However, I’m going to start using it again and if it worked so well when finger detangling, I know it’ll amazing when detangling with a paddle brush. Best of all, my curls will be soooo moisturized and look nice and healthy!”

“If as other reviewers say, this is the same as Curls brand “Coconut Curlada” then I have to say this product is amazing. I stopped using shampoo, and just use this product every time I was my hair, and use Cocunut Creme Brule for my styling cream to define curls and eliminate frizz with Cantu leave in conditioner and I add a little bit of mousse, and I am set. I am so happy I found this product. I don’t see the need to use any other kind of conditioner. Definitely recommend!”
