Name: Marquise D.D. McMiller I
Major: Political Science and Education
Classification: Sophomore
Hometown: Gary, Indiana

HC FAMU: What’s your current position in the Senate?
MM: Well I recently resigned from the Senate to go to the Florida Army National Guard, but my last position was Senator for the Class of 2014 serving on the Executive Committee of the 41st Student Senate as A&S Liaison. That experience was one of many adversities and pleasures. I saw the worst in what people could be even in leadership roles however I learned the true feeling of service, when you serve the student body without reservation to what any group of people will say.

HC FAMU: You are very well known on campus as “MacMilla the Killa”. How did you get that name?
MM: I got the name McMillatheKila from Senator Anthony Siders. It started out as a joke from my decorum in the Senate, and he suggested it as my twitter name. From there this name is what people referred to me as so Kudos to Senator A. Siders.

HC FAMU: One valuable lesson you have learned at FAMU.
MM: I learned that college is very disparate, meaning its contained of people different from each other. Therefore I treat people the same whether they graduate Suma Cum Laude or Thank you Lawd. Why? Because the reality is they are paying to come to school just like you whether its your money or not. Don’t judge folks by your standards cause guess what your standards don’t amount nearly to as much as the Lord’s standards.

HC FAMU: Any advice to younger Senators?
MM: To the younger senators I have already talked to them, they should know my position on issues. I’m fiscally responsible but responsible fiscally to the students. I spend money on programs that last. I’m not a supporter of money spent just on events for a night when we could collectively vote to spend on programs that last anywhere from semesters to years.

HC FAMU: What’s something that you pride yourself in?
MM: Me, not prideful but I value helping. I like to see other people happy, it gives me joy.

HC FAMU: Last words.
MM: Well I thank you for the opportunity to be interviewed by your organization and placed in your publication. Continue your great work along with your staff. May God Bless you and Keep you until we meet again. “Good Better Best. I shall never let it rest. Until my good is my better and my better is my best.”
