Last Minute Planning for the Ultimate Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FAMU chapter.

Spring break is less than a week away but it isn’t too late to start planning for the ultimate last minute spring break adventure. Though it may be too late to save up on vacation funds, you can still plan a travel destination and secure reservations.

“On average, a one week vacation in Panama City, when splitting the cost between a group of five, would be between $1,000 to $2,000 for food, travel and accommodations. The most important way to spend money wisely while on vacation is to use a debit card and try to find ATMs that are associated with your financial institution. That way other banks can’t charge a student with extra bank fees.” Angela Dickerson, Wells Fargo Bank Representive.

Before students start making planning for their ultimate spring break trip they must understand how major the age factor is when booking reservations. Most states don’t allow an individuals that are under the age of 21 to book hotel reservations.

“Last year while me and a few friends went on a spring break trip to Las Vegas we booked a hotel room under my name and ended up getting turned away because we were under the age of 21. Thank goodness for my friend’s aunt that live a few miles away she had to check us in under her name as the primary guest.” Says, Gina Stevens, Junior Criminal Justice student.

Students that are interested in renting cars while on spring break should know what to expect if the person renting the car is under the age of 25. “It depends on the car rental agency, and sometimes it even depends on which city you’re renting the car from the same agency might have different rules for different cities. Sometimes it’s 18, and sometimes it’s 21 or even 25.” Says, Lindsay Mendel, Enterprise associate. At times rental facilities will charge a higher rate for young drivers, usually it’s under 25, so they will rent to you but you must pay a higher rate.

For the students that don’t want to go through the hassle of planning a major trip the best solution is to have a travel agent do the booking for the trip. There are a plethora of commercial and local travel agencies to book from.

According to agent Bill Wester of Tallahassee Adventure & Travel, “When booking a spring break trip, for local college students the most popular places that students under the age of  21 like to travel to are Panama City, Fla. and Cancun, Mexico. These are known as the student friendly getaway spots because they have access to various activities. For students 21 and up the most popular activity is to take a three to four night cruise with a group of four people. “

As students make there decision on where they would like to travel and make reservations for traveling they are then ready to take on the ultimate spring break of a lifetime.
