Unleash Your Inner Online Shopper…

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Falmouth chapter.

One of my favourite things in the world to do is sit on the sofa, coffee and Galaxy Minstrels in hand, and browse through my ‘favourites’ bar on my laptop, visiting all the apparel and beauty websites that I have saved and look for new items. I know it’s a little sad, but I think you would agree with me in saying that there is no better gratification than to find the perfect pair of denim shorts, black patent pumps or non-stick lip-gloss cheaper than you would find them in a shop.

According to a survey by IMRG Online Access and Shopping Report, more than half of British adults now shop online. In March 2010, the report also found more people who search for product information are now likely to shop online, with 18 out of every 20 searchers making a purchase over the internet. With ever-growing ways to access internet sites, these figures are only going to increase and the e-retail market will continue to boom. While a small part of me does feel guilty for department stores’ and small shops’ loss of sales, an even bigger part is very happy that boutique fashion websites are growing in size and capability.

Now, most people know of apparel websites such as ASOS and Boohoo.com for great purchases, but if you dig a little deeper you’ll find some absolute gems for clothing, shoes, jewellery and even discounted makeup. These websites are a saving grace for students like me who have a great thirst for up-to-date fashion and makeup trends but not enough cash to fund the obsession!

Here are some of my favourites that I’ve found over the years, either from fashion blogs or well established lifestyle sites such as Elle.com and some of the best items that I’ve discovered. Write them down, keep them all together and when you’re feeling the need for a new flash of colour in your wardrobe, you won’t feel too guilty about having a splurge – after all, if you’re not handing over actual cash it doesn’t count as shopping does it girls! (I know, I’ll learn one day…)
