Top 5 Holiday Destinations for this Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Falmouth chapter.

1)    Sydney, Australia

Situated in New South Wales, Sydney is one of Australia’s thriving cities where thousands of tourists love to visit every year. Just from looking at images, it is no surprise why it is a popular choice of destination!

With Bondi Beach (in Bondi) being one of Sydney’s main beach attractions, you will certainly be surrounded by equally enthusiastic locals and holiday-goers. This chilled out (though sometimes VERY busy) location provides some of the best views in the world. It is here that the beach volleyball competition was held during the 2000 Summer Olympics.

2) Fiji, Melanesia (South Pacific Ocean)

The country consists of more than 332 islands (of which 110 are permanently inhabited). All are beautifully picturesque and this is the go-to place for backpackers and gap year students. The two major islands Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, make up 87% of the population of almost 860,000. Three-quarters of Fijians live on Viti Levu’s coasts, either in Suva (the capital and largest city) or in smaller urban locations like Nadi.

A great attraction to visit where there are some very exciting activities/events, is the Robinson Crusoe Island Night Tour. There are live traditional Fijian shows, such as the knife and fire dance, basket making and kava ceremonies – and many others!

You can not escape a scenic beach on the islands…it is impossible! So take your time and amble along…lazy days all around!

3) Singapore

One of the greatest attractions in Singapore is the island resort of Sentosa. Here there are plenty of things to do with all the family. The underwater world is the main highlight, boasting a huge pink dolphin (yes, PINK!) show which you are allowed to have a photo taken with after the show! Alongside this impressive animal are a number of other sea creatures: Manatees, Dugongs, Stingrays. Beautiful indeed.

4) Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Situated on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf, Dubai has steadily grown to be a gloval city, business and cultural hub of the Middle East and Persian Gulf region.

Dubai is a popular destination for tourists who enjoy glamour and fantastic weather. It plays host to a vast selection of things to see and do. These range from scuba diving and discovering wreckages, belly and salsa dancing, swimming with dolphins and embarking on a cruise! This is all under huge demand, so get booking soon!

5) Thailand, Southeast Asia

When I think of Thailand, I often associate with Danny Boyle’s (2000) film The Beach. Lush beaches aplenty. With its largest city being Bangkok, Thailand is home to another bustling tourist-filled destination. Drawing in the visitors is the warm tropical weather and beautiful scenery which never fails to take your breath away. Thailand’s beaches and islands attract millions of people every year from all over the world. The ones recommended to visit are the beaches in Krabi Province: Ao Nang, Rai Leh and Ko Lanta.

Hi! I am Swee Lee O'Gorman. Born in London, I love all things to do with film, music and fashion. Also, I'm addicted to books. I have always been fanatical over cultural things such as the above and love to share all my reviews with others out there. Current obsessions: Elvis Presley, 'The Walking Dead' - all zombie related things and reading!
