Top 5 Facts You Probably Didn’t Know About Shakespeare

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Falmouth chapter.

On April 23rd, it was the 450th birthday anniversary of the legendary playwright William Shakespeare. Here are the top 5 facts you may, or may not have known about the much loved bard……

1)      Amazingly, Shakespeare never attended university! (but…..look how he has gone down in history!)

2)      Did you know that Hamlet may be about Shakespeare’s only son Hamnet? Hamnet died at a young age and his father was said to be devastated.

3)      We often don’t spell Shakespeare correctly, but neither did the man himself (from time to time)! There have been various spellings of it noted, such as “Shappere” and “Shaxberd”.

4)      Despite Shakespeare being able to write all of these plays and poems, it is most likely that his parents were illiterate, as were most poor people from around this time period.

5)      From seeing that there is a big empty gap in records between 1585 and 1592, nobody knows what Shakespeare did during this time!
