Top 10 Movies to Watch On a Night In!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Falmouth chapter.

1) Fast & Furious (2001)

This is a great film for both you and the boyfriend, because of its fast and action-packed nature. It’s also packed full of eye candy (including that of the recently passed Paul Walker), so it is guaranteed to be fun viewing for both of you!

2) Friends with Benefits (2011)

With laughs aplenty, this rom-com is a popular one for nights in, mainly because of its two stars, Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis! The storyline is about two work colleagues who become (yes, you guessed it) friends with benefits, so there are bound to be a lot of awkward situations encountered….which makes it all the more entertaining!

3) The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway star in this popular book adaptation of the same name, which shows a witty look at the New York fashion scene. It is full of hilarity and fun, so there was no doubt that it would become a classic.

4) Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is the classic Angelina Jolie movie, which is the cult classic; full of action and cheesy moments. Tomb Raider had  previously held the title of the highest grossing video game to film adaptation, until 2006 when it was taken by Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. So this film does not disappoint!

5)The Walking Dead: Season 1-3 box set (2010 – 2013)

Set in a post-apocalyptic (zombie) world, the story follows Sheriff Rick Grimes, who wakes up after a coma, and discovers that the world he once knew has gone forever. He then meets other survivors, and we witness the drama surrounding members of the camp, with the backdrop of the annoying ‘walkers’. Prepare yourself for gore and action….if you like zombies plus ‘hot rednecks’ then this is the option for you!

6) Mamma Mia! (2008)

Fancy a good old sing-a-long? Mamma Mia! is the perfect film for that! With a collection of ABBA songs, and great comedic lines, you will have a smile on your face the whole way through! If you feel particularly daring, you may even get out of your seat and dance!

7) The Beach (2000)

A favourite among the Leonardo DiCaprio fans, The Beach is a drama directed by Slumdog Millionaire’s Danny Boyle, and has a fantastic soundtrack to go with it; most notably the All Saints smash hit single Pure Shores. This movie is the best choice if you want to enjoy scenic views of Thai beaches….and *cough* Leo *cough*.

8) School of Rock (2003)

Jack Black and a host of child actors star in this hilarious film about a “fake” teacher, who manages to train the class into entering an annual rock band concert. His main reason for doing so being that he had previously been kicked out of a rock group, so had failed to enter the concert himself. Aside from the continual comedy throughout this film, its soundtrack is top notch, especially for all of you classic rock fans, as it consists of the likes of Stevie Nicks and AC/DC.

9) 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

One of the best nostalgic 90’s chic flicks out there: 10 Things I Hate About You, stars young Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Based loosely on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, this film provides you with moments of burst-out-loud laughter and, who could forget, the sports ground serenading scene!? *sigh*

10) Grease (1978)

This absolute classic of a musical is one that you could never get tired of watching, or singing along to! The numbers performed by the cast will definitely have you joining in. You’d be crazy not to!
