Why Timehop Is the Best Way to Keep Your Social Media Use [or Life] in Check

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Most collgiettes can agree that social media takes over our lives at times. It’s a way to release our feelings, emotions, ideas, and gossip that we have built up while sitting in class all week. Within seconds you can post pictures of you and your friends from this weekend’s outing at the Grape on Facebook, or tweet how awkward it was when you slipped down the hill on your way to class. Social media is like a journal we keep of our lives, but shared with the world. And we do it so often that we can’t even remember everything we posted. Luckily, the app “Timehop” is there to remind us! Every day, Timehop shows you what you put on all social media a year ago, 2 years, 3 years ago, and so on. It reminds you of all the embarrassing/funny/awesome things you did, so you can learn from your social media and sometimes life mistakes. Here are just a few examples of times where things were posted and definitely regretted…

1. “Basketball game with Lyssss <333;;; text the cellll if ur cutteeeeeeeee”

The classic Facebook status from 7th grade…I’m not really sure why I thought it was okay to add 8 more letters to the end of every word and specify that only “cute” people can text me.

2. No one cares that I was really sad and missed my mom for like a month straight freshman year of college… I should try to keep my emotions and my breakups to myself.

3. The Facebook album I titled “S3niOr Y3ar” with 3,000 pictures that make it seem like my friends and I were raging until the sun came up was extremely unnecessary…

4. Why did I EVER think it was a good idea to post that picture on social media….

5. “I’m so glad I made that selfie of me in braces with the caption ‘baby I’m a rock star’ my profile picture for like 6 months of my life…”, said no one ever.

6. Why did my friends let me write my own statuses and more often than not make it one that said “Like this for a rateee… soOoO bored ;)”

7. OMG I was so skinny…. Time to go on a diet!

Download Timehop at your own risk… embarrassment may occur.
