The Ten Stages of Black Friday Shopping (As Told By ‘The Office)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Black Friday is the day of the year where thousands of people wake up at midnight to get the best deals, in hopes to get all of their Christmas shopping done in just one day. Half of the fun of Black Friday is all of the madness and craziness that comes with it. Some hate it, while others wait all year for it. If you are one of the people who love Black Friday shopping, you might recall your experiences of Black Friday shopping going something like this:

1. Figuring Out All the Good Deals

The reason to go Black Friday shopping in the first place is because all of the stores are offering unbelievable sales that make it worth waking up at midnight for.

2. Planning the Stores You’re Going to Hit First

You have to make your plan of what stores are most important to hit first. There’s going to be lines and items will sell out quickly. Prioritizing what stores to hit first based on what you need (or just want to the most) is key.

3. Getting Coffee

If you’re waking up on midnight and running on little to no sleep, you’re going to need a cup of coffee (or five) to make it through the day.

4. Dodging Crowds

As hundreds of people are pushing, grabbing, and yelling, you wonder why any sane human being would be willing to go Black Friday shopping.

5. Dealing With Something You Wanted Being Sold Out

When something you wanted is sold out, you feel as if you could cry.

6. Trying to Figure Out If You’re Running Out of Money

After two hours of shopping, you start wondering how much money is left in your account before you go into the next store and they tell you your credit card is declined.

7. Wondering Why You Dealt With This Craziness Instead of Waiting For Cyber Monday

As you start getting tired, hungry, and annoyed with mass amounts of people, you wonder why you could not have just waited three more days for Cyber Monday. Cyber Monday lets you shop in the comfort of your bed, instead of with thousands of random, overtired, crazy strangers.

8. Talking Nonsense Due To Lack of Sleep

The lack of sleep is starting to hit and you don’t know how much longer you can stay on your feet. You start hitting a point where even coffee cannot keep you awake. You start talking nonsense and you feel like you should get out of the mall before you buy or say something you might regret.

9. Finally Leaving the Mall

You finally leave the mall and you do not think you could be happier to finally be able to sit down.

10. The Feeling of Relief Knowing Your Christmas Shopping is Done

Although you had to deal with the craziness, you did get majority (or if you’re really lucky, all) of your Christmas shopping done and it is one less thing you have to worry about for the rest of the holiday season.

11. When You Finally Get To Go Back To Sleep

As soon as you hit your pillow you know you won’t be back awake for at least another five hours. You’re proud of yourself for making it through Black Friday and your reward to yourself is getting to go back to sleep.
