You have five classes and ten work hours per week, and everyone wonders how you do it. Well, let’s admit, it is definitely as hard as it looks. Since you have almost mastered the art of balancing both, you already closer to finding your path to success in life. This job experience will look fantastic on your resume, and if you can keep those grades up too you are going to look ridiculously appealing at your future job interviews. But just so you know you’re not alone, let’s talk about some of the struggles that all those who are trying to find this balance are going through.
You want to please everyone, but find this close to impossible to do.You feel like your teachers and your boss are expecting 100% out of you. As much as we wish they would, neither our teachers nor our bosses are going to cater to our needs, but they will be reasonable. This treatment is actually a great preview of how we are going to be treated in the “real world.” The only thing that we can do is try our hardest. Try to ace our classes and please our bosses. One thing I must say is that hard work does not go unappreciated.
You feel like your social life is dwindling away. When you’re not in class, you’re working. And when you’re not in class or working, you’re doing homework. And when you’re not in class or working or doing your homework, you’re sound asleep. You feel like you have no time to hang out with your friends anymore, but then you realize that even doing small things with them is still hanging out. And I guarantee you will not have to work every weekend. Just think, if they are your true friends they will stand by you no matter how often you can see them.
You feel like you’ll never be able to join the other organizations you want to.You think that between your work and class schedule, you will not have enough time to join those clubs you promised yourself you’d join this year. FUSA is bound to meet at the exact same time that you are expected to be at work, but there are two things you can do in this situation. Either join another club that you are interested that doesn’t conflict, or try to see if you can change your hours on the days that there are meetings. It is very rare that a boss is not going to be willing to cooperate if you are trying to join something that will be beneficial to your college experience.
The struggle can be very real when you are trying to do it all. But, all you need to know is that it will most definitely pay off and will be more than worth it. Take advantage of the opportunities in front of you, and once you learn how to balance it all, you’ll feel like you’re truly capable of doing anything.
