Rihanna Shines Bright Like A Diamond in the Night Sky at Super Bowl XLVII Half-Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Badgalriri makes her performance debut after what seems like an eternity, but has really been 5 years. For many fans, a Rihanna performance has been long-awaited.  Her makeup brand, Fenty Beauty releases, and her lingerie business, Savage x Fenty, have not been able to tide over her passionate followers. Therefore, her Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show was a widely accepted and anticipated event by her exuberant fanbase, which let’s be honest is the majority of the world.

Opening with my all-time favorite song, “B—- Better Have My Money,” Rihanna had an audience of a whopping 123.5 million viewers captivated by her entrancing voice. That is 19 million more viewers than watched the actual Super Bowl … insane. Her piercing red ensemble contrasted by the hundreds of backup dancers in white sweatsuits and puffer jackets, suspended from 15 to 60 feet in the air, caught the attention of everyone watching and never dropped their attention.

She moved through her discography from “B—- Better Have My Money” to “Where Have You Been,” “Only Girl (In the World),” “We Found Love,” “Rude Boy,” “Work,” “Wild Thoughts,” “Pour it Up,” “All of the Lights,” “Run This Town,” and “Umbrella”.  She finished her lively performance with “Diamonds,” a Billboard Music Award winning song, beautifully wrapping up a choreographically complex performance.

Finally, while her performance was jaw-dropping, many were left wanting more. This can be attributed to the lack of guest performers during her show.  It is typically the norm that at least one guest performer is brought out during a song as a surprise. While she sang songs with featured artists, leading the audience to believe that a guest star was on their way, she never took advantage of this opportunity.  However, some may say that the true guest performer was her new baby on the way.
