Perfect Foundations For Every Skin Type: Both High End and Drugstore

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

It’s that time of year again. When the leaves start to fall from the trees and you have to put on your best face for the start of the semester. I personally love the fall; the gorgeous colors, the cute fashion and, my all time favorite, salted caramel mocha lattes at Starbucks (seriously it can beat out pumpkin spice any day). Unfortunately for some of us, the change in seasons can cause some pretty scary changes in our skin, which in turn can cause pretty scary results with our makeup. Alligator skin and flaking? Yikes, no thank you.

I’ve put together some of what I consider the best foundations on the market for every skin type. Ranging from oily to combination to dry skin with drugstore and high-end options for each.

Dry Skin:

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

The name of this foundation almost speaks for itself. For anyone with dry skin the one thing that they have to deal with is lack of moisture, which not only makes applying foundation a nightmare, but also leaves the skin lacking that desired glow. This foundation has a dewy finish. Its formula is incredibly smooth and moisturizing. It does fall on the sheer side but is easy to layer to your ideal coverage. A little pricey coming in at $49, but it is a great investment that is definitely worth the money.

L’Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup

If you’re looking for something a little more wallet friendly and readily available, then the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation is for you. The formula is packed full of vitamins and antioxidants to help revitalize any tired or dry skin. Incredibly moisturizing for a drugstore brand, the Lumi offers that young fresh glow for only a fraction of the price of the Giorgio Armani, coming in at only $12.99! Truly a steal for the quality and there is no need for a trip to a specialty store such as Sephora.

Combination or Normal Skin:

Make Up Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation

Okay so I have to admit… I’m a little biased to this one. The Make Up Forever Ultra HD has been my ride-or-die for years now. The formula is honestly one of the best I’ve used. It is full coverage and easily blendable. Perfect for combination or normal skin, it offers a satin finish somewhere between dewy and matte, which is great for people who fluctuate between skin types. Coming in at $43 it’s still on the pricier side, but for me after having used it for years, I’d say it is very worth the price.

L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup

L’Oreal, we meet again, and for good reason. If you want to talk about low-cost high-quality makeup, L’Oreal should be your go to brand. Their foundation for normal and combination skin offers a satin finish much like the Make Up Forever one but at a far more reasonable price. It’s oil-free and contains no harsh parabens or fragrances that may irritate the skin. True Match, like the name says, comes in a large range of shades to match anyone’s skin perfectly. A great bang for your buck at $10.95.

Oily Skin:

Cover FX Natural Finish Oil Free Foundation

Cover FX is not a brand name that comes to mind in the makeup world, but it deserves to be. This foundation will stay in place all day, even when you’re on your worst oil streak. A little goes a long way because of the amount of coverage and pigment. On top of all of this, the Cover FX foundation is waterproof! It’s every oily complexions dream foundation. It’ll cost you $40, being the least expensive of the higher end products but still no chump change.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation

This foundation is amazing. It has a great matte finish foundation for a drugstore brand. Maybelline pulled out all the stops with this one. Not only is it oil-free, full of vitamins, and mattefying, the formula also has a built in pore minimizer. It primes and covers all in one, which makes for a very long lasting foundation. This Maybelline foundation is not as thick as the Cover FX so it is more easily layered for preferred coverage. A must-have at $7.99, this foundation is ideal for the low spender within you.
