Meet the Face of Stags TV Casey DelBasso ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Name: Casey DelBasso

Year: Senior

Major: Film, Television and Media Arts Major and Communications Minor

Her Campus: What made you want to get into TV in the first place?

Casey DelBasso: Ever since I was little I always wanted to be on TV like the news anchors. When I was growing up with my mom and grandma the TV was like background noise and it was always on in our house. Now instead of a news anchor I want to go more into entertainment news like Guilanna Rancic.

HC: What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on so far?

CD: I’m more of a TV major so my favorite TV thing that I’ve worked would definitely be FUSE, the bi-weekly news show for Stags TV. Lisa Fischer, a junior produces it and then I get to host on air, which is great for my reel. But a favorite Film project that I’ve worked on would have to be this past summer we filmed a feature film in Maine through the program here so a whole group of us, and we’re like brothers and sisters, went up to Maine and like lived the Real World in Maine and it was awesome! So that was really cool and that would probably be my favorite film project that I worked on.

HC: What’s something that people might now know about you?

CD: People may not know that I am absolutely, out of my mind obsessed with giraffes. I literally love they’re everywhere like my bag has giraffes on it and I have a phone case, a Stag Card holder like everything in my house is giraffes. I absolutely love them because when I was little I was really tall and I would cry about it and my mom would say, “Why are you so upset? There are animals that are so beautiful and tall like the giraffes. Don’t worry you’re going to fit in.” And I used to be like “No I hate them! I hate giraffes!” But now they mean so much to me. I love them they’re my favorite animal! So that’s kind of like a fun fact. (Laughs)

HC: What’s your favorite thing about Fairfield?

CD: My favorite thing  about Fairfield would have to be the sense of community. Like now that I’m a senior and I’m here and I’m walking through campus I can at least smile at like ten people on the way to my classes and that to me is super important because I have a really strong bond with my family at home and to have a second family here at Fairfield has made the experience…like yeah, the classes are good and the experience I’m getting is great but that sense of belonging here and having people that I know have my back and would do anything for me is definitely the reason why I love it so much

HC: Ten years from now where do you hope to be?

CD: I hope to be living in New York City. I want to move there after school eventually, when I’m not poor anymore (Laughs). Maybe being some kind of on air host of a show and kind of like having a name and people know who I am and know that I want to be a TV personality. That’s like ultimate goals. But obviously happy, with a family…ten years right? A family in ten years?

HC: Yeah (Laughs)

CD: Yeah so a family in ten years and spending time with someone that I love.

HC: Okay last question, what’s one piece of advice you would give to a freshman or an incoming student?

CD: My piece of advice would be to instantly hit the ground running. Yes take time to get adjusted and to feel Fairfield out but the second that I walked in the door here I made sure that people knew that I wanted to do television. And I was like “Hi, I’m Casey and I want to be on air!” And yes people at the beginning were like “who is this person?” but at the same time people now say, “If you need a host go to Casey”. People know that I want to do that so just make your mark and be happy with who you are and let people know who you are because people are so afraid that being yourself is something that you’ll be shunned for but people really embrace it when you are who you are. So my advice would be to be who you are and completely embrace that
