Makeup Mistakes We Need to Stop Doing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Mistake #1: Wearing the Wrong Foundation Shade

Foundation is supposed to create a perfectly smooth complexion, so you always use a foundation that blends into your skin. Before buying a foundation, if possible, test it on your jawline to see if it blends in and matches your skin tone. Also, see if you can check what it looks like in natural light vs. indoor light. Also, when shopping in stores like Sephora, don’t be afraid to ask for help so they can assist you in choosing the right foundation shade.

Mistake #2: Clumpy Eyelashes

Walking around with clumped together, spider-like eyelashes is not a pretty look. Mascara is intended to thicken and lengthen your lashes while still looking natural. If you are guilty of this mistake, do not worry because there is an easy solution to this. Use an eyelash comb to run through your lashes to avoid clumps. Also, make sure your mascara to be replacing your mascara every 3 months so it stays fresh and easy to apply!

Mistake #3: Clown Blush

This makeup mishap is easy to avoid. Apply blush a little at a time to avoid looking like a clown. Also, make sure you are using a blush shade that compliments your skin tone! Always chose a shade that is 1-2 shades darker/lighter than your skin. For example, if you have medium skin, chose a medium pink, choosing a bright pink will result in looking like you ran away from the circus.

Mistake #4: White “Reverse Raccoon” Eyes

Concealer is a girl’s best friend after an all nighter to cover those dark under eye circles, but sometimes collegiettes use a shade that is much too light for their skin tone, this resulting in the appearance of white circles. Your concealer should only be one shade lighter than your skin tone. Make sure your skin is also properly moisturized to ensure easier application.

Mistake #5: Sleeping with Your Makeup On

Every collegiette is guilty of this beauty crime from time to time (especially after a night out), but DO NOT make this a habit. This can be one of the worst makeup mistakes to make, so always try to take the time to remove your makeup before bed. Makeup clogs pores that lead to breakouts, which no collegiette ever wants. Even if you are too tired to wash your face, use makeup remover wipes like Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes.
