London Calling: Audriana’s Ultimate Abroad Packing List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

When it comes to studying abroad there are so many things you have to worry about. One of the most stressful parts about leaving the country is not being able to take your entire closet away with you.  When packing for your 4 months abroad in London you may have to part with many of your favorite pieces of clothing.

Mixing and matching clothes is a great way to save space in your suitcase but still be fashionable. Worried about outfit repeating? This is another problem solved by mixing up new outfits.  The key to shopping for study abroad is to buy colors that are neutral and will match with everything. London is one of the fashion capitols of the world, so its time to ditch your Nike shorts and tees, collegiettes and pack on the more fashionable side. Let me break my packing list down for you!

Shoes:

Booties. Perfect for a day of shopping booties can be worn with your favorite boyfriend jeans or throw them on with a pair of skinnies if you are heading out for a night at the pub.

Sneakers. It’s impossible to leave for London without your slip ons or wedged sneakers. Add them to any outfit day or night for a sporty edge.

Riding boots. These classic shoes are perfect for sightseeing on those chilly London days! Not to mention they add a chic touch to a simple outfit.

Pointed heels. The biggest trend this season is pointed shoes. Pair yours with boyfriend jeans or even my jogger pants for a night out. Finally sweatpants at a bar are acceptable!

Pants:

Leather Jeggings. London clubs here we come! Leather jeggings paired with a graphic tee and a sleek ponytail put this outfit over the edge.

Joggers. Every girls dream. This new trend can be paired with a simple t-shirt or even a dressy blouse. When it comes to shoes you can wear anything from your pointed heels to a pair of wedged sneakers to give off a comfy yet fashionable style.

Skinny Jeans. These jeans are a packing staple. Their versatility in any outfit makes them a must have for fall at home and abroad.

Boyfriend Jeans. Another versatile look that adds a casual vibe to any outfit. Wear with an oversized sweater or a crisp black blazer. Who needs a boyfriend when you have these jeans?

Army Pants. Add some color into your London wardrobe. Army pants are another comfortable option to roam around the city in and the color is becoming the newest neutral!

Jackets:

Blazer. Look like a city slicker by adding a crisp blazer over a oversized tee and boyfriend jeans. A sock bun and some pointed heels are all that’s left for a night on the town.

Baseball Jacket. Another new trend is the Baseball jacket. It’s a sporty addition to a sweet skater skirt and slip ons perfect for class.

Leather Jacket. Live life on the edge collegiettes! Add a punky leather jacket over anything from jeans and a blouse to a LBD.

Trench Coat. Unpredictable weather can be a stress when packing for abroad. Channel Mary-Kate and Ashley a lá Winning London and pack a classic trench that can pull together any outfit in any climate.

Tops:

Graphic T-Shirts. Show off your personality through a graphic t-shirts this fall. Wear it with edgy leather leggings or go casual with boyfriend jeans and slip ons. The choice is yours!

Silk Blouse. A silk blouse is always a great piece to keep in your wardrobe. You can wear it your favorite leather jeggings and booties or pair it with your joggers and pointed heels, don’t be afraid to take a little bit of a risk your time abroad.

Oversized sweater. The best part about fall is over sized sweaters and a hot Starbucks no matter what country you’re in. Try them with army pants and slip on sneakers or go classic cozy in skinny jean and riding boots. No matter what you wear them with comfy sweaters can do no wrong.

Plain T-shirt. No matter where you are headed abroad, simple t-shirts are the way to go. They can be worn with any shoe, jacket or pant. Accessorize it differently each time they’re worn to never feel that you have on the same shirt twice.

Denim button down. Denim button down shirts are a classic fall item. Go classic in your favorite jeggings and riding boots or take a risk with all denim. It may sound like a crazy idea but with your slip on sneakers or booties you’ll have an eye-catching style.

Crewneck Sweatshirt. Crewneck sweaters are a go to for abroad. Wear it with joggers and wedged sneakers for the perfect jetsetter look.
