Break-ups, unfortunately, can be one of the worst emotional roller coasters a girl could be put on. Everything about your relationship becomes just a memory, the good and the bad. The days of spending all your time together no longer exist. The place where you first met sends chills down your spine instead of bringing a smile to your face. That song- you know the one- brings back all the memories of when you were so happy together. However, after a breakup, it is important to focus on the positives that come out of your relationship. Despite what you are feeling now, everyone that comes in and out of your life is there to teach you a valuable lesson, including your ex. Here are some of the lessons that my ex-boyfriend has taught me:

The only approval I need from anyone in life is from myself.

The only person that is ever going to have my back is myself.

My own happiness should come before any guy.

It is okay to put myself first sometimes.

My gut feelings are always right.

I deserve to be respected, always.

I’m worth a lot more than I think.

How to communicate my feelings.

How to stand up for myself.

It is okay to trust others, even though I lost trust in you.

Just because things went wrong with us does not mean I should put a wall up with everyone else.

No guy should ever come between the ones I love and myself.

I’m a lot stronger than I think.

How to be honest not only with others, but also with myself.

The importance of loving myself.

How to be happy all on my own.

So despite the lows of a break up; being screwed over, losing friends, fights, and the feeling of losing yourself; I thank you for all the lessons you have taught me. Memories fade, feelings change, but the lessons stick with you.
