Learn All About Our ~Favorite~ Former First Lady Michelle Obama In Her New Memoir!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

It has been almost two years since our favorite first family left the White House. However, Michelle Obama is once again in the spotlight with the release of her highly anticipated memoir, Becoming. On November 13th, Michelle Obama broke records by becoming an instant bestseller, to no one’s surprise, with over 725,000 copies sold on its first day on the shelves.

While it is still saddening to not have Michelle Obama’s elegance and class representing America, her new memoir highlights her trivial upbringing towards becoming our First Lady. Without giving away too many spoilers, some of the most notable moments in this must-read include her struggles with infertility, including suffering from a miscarriage, while also recollecting on some of the most devastating days during Barack’s time in office. This memoir represents a sensational story of a young-girl from the South Side of Chicago destined for success by forging her own path, making history, and breaking glass ceilings. Michelle Obama embodies an empowering kindness to all girls alike.

The intimate view of Michelle’s life shows that being a First Lady is not always a luxury. Michelle was not raised in a privileged, wealthy, middle-class family. Rather, she was raised as an independent woman, who has always been destined to make great changes to our country. Becoming is the empowering memoir that all young girls must read and proves that through a motivated work ethic and desire for greater change, one can become as influential as Michelle. Now more than ever it is important to show our children that your upbringing does not determine your future.

Although it has been years since we said our tearful farewell to the Obamas, Michelle will always be a sensational and empowering woman who I had the privilege of calling my First Lady.
