Most of us have seen him around campus and questioned his unique attire. Some of us may even feel guilty about taking secret Snapchats of him on our way to class. A t-shirt, sandals and shorts is not exactly an ideal outfit choice in the middle of winter, especially when it is snowing out. I had the opportunity to sit down and get to know this inadvertent Campus Celebrity, 19-year-old sophomore Noel Laflamme and ask him some of the questions that are on everyone’s mind.Â
Her Campus: Where are you originally from?Noel Laflamme: I am from Jamestown, Rhode Island, which surprises most people. Everyone always assumes I am from somewhere cold. On campus I live in Bellarmine.
HC: The big question… How do you dress like that and not freeze in the winter?NL: I don’t get cold. My parents questioned it at first. It was hard for them to believe me until I would be shoveling snow outside in my shorts and I would come inside and they would feel my arms and I would still be warm. The only time I really even notice the cold is when it is in the negatives.
HC: Does it bother you when people question you about your apparel?NL: No, not at all. I know it is different. My closest friends are used to it. When people ask me I just tell them I do not get cold, or it is not cold out.
HC: Do you ever notice people taking pictures of you?NL: Yes! It doesn’t bother me though. My friends have a picture of me covered in snow during last year’s snow storm- that was pushing it a little.
HC: Is winter your favorite season?NL: I do enjoy the winter. The summer heat is brutal especially in high school when I had to wear a uniform, which included pants, even when it was hot outside. I also enjoy the summer though because I love fishing as well as archery. I was a part of the archery club on campus until my schedule became too busy.
HC: Why did you choose Fairfield?NL: The reason I came to Fairfield is because it was one of the better small engineering schools in the area I got into. I am a mechanical engineering major.
Noel is an extremely friendly and a down to earth person. This winter I think we all wish we could have braved the cold the way Noel did!Â
