High School Musical ~literally defined~ my childhood. Ever since 2006, I’ve vowed to bop to the top, keep my head in the game, and break free. So naturally, when the trilogy ended, I was devastated to say the least (*cue flashback to a younger me, crying in the movie theater when the Wildcats finally graduated*). I’m sure the same goes for many of us, who spent our younger years crushing on the heartthrob that is Troy Bolton.
Almost 10 years since the final movie in the trilogy was released, it seems that the curtain has not yet closed on the High School Musical story. During a quarterly earnings call with reporters, Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger shared that that a TV series based on High School Musical is in fact in the works. There is also a Star Wars series in motion as well.
This announcement truly marks the ~start of something new~ for Disney, as these TV series are being released in sync with Disney’s new streaming service. Set to debut in 2019, the service will cost less than Netflix’s monthly fee and will be the home of four original movies, as well as TV series.
I absolutely cannot wait to meet East High’s newest Wildcats and see what Disney has in store. But until 2019, you can find me watching HSM 1, 2, and 3 on repeat.
