Gap Inc. is Shutting Down Piperlime

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Avid online shoppers are in mourning  after Gap Inc.’s recent announcement that they will be shutting down the online retailer, Piperlime, as well as their NYC boutique in February.

Piperlime is known for selling high-end brands, like Kate Spade, 7 For All Mankind, and BCBG Max Azria. The company started in 2006 as an online shoe retailer, meant to compete with powerhouse shoe retailer Zappos. In the years following, Piperlime added fashion accessories as well as fashion apparel.

Piperlime contributed less than 1% to the company’s revenue with less than 100 million dollars in sales. In recent years Piperlime has tried to up their game by featuring fashion bloggers and actresses, such as Rachel Bilson, Jessica Alba and Rachel Zoe. However, Piperlime could not recover.

This is not the first time Gap Inc. has decided to close down a branch of their company. In 2007 they closed Forth & Towne, a concept developed for older women, showing that the company

Piperlime had quite the cult following and will be deeply missed by fashionistas everywhere.
