“Doing My Own Little Thing”: Single Ladies Guide to the Perfect V-Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Valentines Day. These two words seem to be the most dreaded in the “single ladies” vocabulary. We watch our friends with their boyfriends as they receive their chocolates and teddy bears in the same way we watch the romance movies on TV and envy those lucky people behind the screen. Sitting at home tends to be our activity of choice on this notorious night…maybe (probably) with some ice cream in one hand and in pizza in another. But who says that Valentines Day has to be so drab? Not me! Is there a chance it can actually be enjoyable? Grab your single friends and try out some of these suggestions!

1.    Who doesn’t love some good food? Go on a dinner date with your closest single friends…the more the merrier! Luckily for us Fairfield girls, there are plenty of delicious options in town. Try out any or all of the following: The Grilled Cheese Eatery and order their famous “grilled cheese Mac n’ Cheese”, Centro for some homemade Italian or Wild Rice for sushi.

2.    If you’re in the mood for a typical Titanic-esque romance film, go to see Endless Love, starring Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde. Premiering on February 14th, this movie is sure to be the “go-to” for the single girls community.

3.    Appeal to your sweet tooth and bake some yummy treats! Dig up some Britney Spears or N’SYNC throwback music with the girls and make it fun! In honor of Valentine’s Day, try and stick with the “red” theme. Chocolate covered strawberries and red velvet cupcakes are always a yummy choice (click the link to our Velvetine Mini Cupcake recipe!)

4.    Turn Valentine’s Day into a spa day! It’s hard to pass up on some genuine TLC and pampering. Mani/Pedi’s, massages and a great blow out are essential to feeling fabulous.

5.    Why not take advantage of how close we Fairfield girls are to NYC? Make Valentines Day an excuse to venture into the city…stroll down 5th Ave., window-shop and grab a cute bite to eat at one of the many restaurants the Big Apple has to offer!

6.    Speaking of shopping…treat yourself to some new pieces for your wardrobe! Believe it or not, you deserve it. Try and buy something different and out of your comfort zone, because remember- change is good! Take advantage of Apricot Lanes 20% off student discount and put your spree to good use.

7.    Take a yoga or Zumba class with the girls! Most of us dread exercise, but there’s no reason why it can’t be enjoyable! Fairfield Hot Yoga (located at the Fairfield Sportsplex) offers a student special for only $12 per individual class. Momentum Fitness and Wellness offers Zumba classes on Post Road (for only $10 per individual class)…right next to the bookstore!

It doesn’t matter that cupid’s arrow hasn’t struck you or that the “right guy” hasn’t quite yet made an appearance in your glamorous world yet…embrace this single time while you can!

In addition to being a CC she has held internships with Michael Kors, CollegeFashionista.com and the Rockville Centre and Baldwin Heralds. She’s excited to spend her senior year living at Fairfield Beach with her best friends including fellow CC Danielle Tullo! You can follow her on Twitter @theAMANDAshowww or on Instagram @ammckelvey.
